I'm Polish i read once newspaper story about guy from northern who was aggressive on the street and Police was sent to calm them down and arrest, but guy behave in threatening manner to officers, trying to force them to use their service weapon Pistolet Walther P99, but our coops subdue him without using of gun, our Polish Police unlike American or Russians rarely use their guns. Later was told that they guy had some mental issue.

I like to watch Police documentary on TV, i some time wonder why our Polish coops are so wimpy, in USA coop just would take gun and shoot a punk on spot!, not to mention policemen from Russia :-)

It's called "suicide by cop". Trying to provoke the police to shoot you. If you wanna do yourself in it makes as much sense to provoke a cop to pull the trigger on you as doing the work to shoot oneself, or doing it any other way I suppose.

It's not wimpy to value life. Cops shouldn't be blowing people away unless they really have to. That should be the last resort.

No one on this thread is advocating that police should kill folks (except as a last resort).

And most folks who attempt suicide by cop fail to persuade the cops to do it. A friend from a crazy dysfunctional family told me that he was so despondent once that he tried to get the cops to shoot him when the cops intervened in one of his family's many drunken household fights. Thankfully they did not shoot him, and he is still with us.

Suicide by cop is one of the most tragic things about law enforcement in this country, I read so many stories about the police being called to do a welfare check on a mentally ill person only for them to show up and kill them. Sometimes the police officers have no choice and have to protect themselves and the public but a lot of the time I think it is totally unnecessary. Our police need to learn to deescalate, they need to specifically trained as how to deal with the mentally ill, and far to often I feel like lethal force is the first option as opposed to last resort.
