Just recently there was a mass shooting in Florida where 50 people were killed and 53 were injured.

This wouldn't be a BIG deal if it wasn't for the fact that the place where the mass shooting took place was a gay night club!

It's time to for us to stop taking this wretched bible so seriously! If we truly want a "free america" the we must first free ourselves from this cryptic book that, as I we write in this forum, is taking the lives of the members of the LGBT community!

It's time that we settle this petty war between the LGBT community and Christianity before any more lives are taken away because of this conflict!

It's not necessarily the Bible that's the problem: it's what people are doing with the information in the Bible, and twisting sacred truths around to suit their negative actions. Besides, not all Christians are against the LGBT community. Many Christians are kind, loving people.

I don't see how anything about the bible has to do with any of this, and if anything, they are yet again blaming it on Muslims and Islamists and the Qu'Ran more so than on Bibles or Christians. You might think that both of those Religions are crazy but Government is an even more Dangerous Religion and Corporations have now actually become even More Dangerous than Governments !

I also want to know for a fact that this "News" report was not "Manufactured" from a Movie-Studio, full of actors who pretend to be victims or family members of victims, before I go about trusting anything from so-called News...

Since the shooter was almost certainly Muslim, the issue in this case wouldn't be Leviticus 18:22, but the Sunnah, or more precisely, the following hadith in Sunan Abu Dawood, the 3rd book in the Kutub al-Sittah:

And it's not just the possibility that this might be manufactured that makes me feel upset, but also the fact that I might have fell for it! Assuming this turns out to be true, of course.

I didn't know Omar Mateen was Jewish.

I've been through this intensely with a bisexual friend who was raised to believe the bible as the literal truth (I'm not a Christian by the way, but there is an influence).

My procedure was as follows:

1) Having read Kierkagaard I believe one finds one's own way to divinity, and whilst if I converted to Christianity it would be Catholicism, it follows from K that NO ONE CAN INTERPRET FAITH FOR YOU (I was talking to someone very in the protestant tradition).

2) Christians wholesale ignore biblical instructions, as is sensible.

3) My interpretation of Leviticus is that sodomy between men is fine as long as you do it standing up, and I welcomed him to form his own interpretation.

This might sound flippant, but it has ramifications, and my helping my friend in this way did not fall on the stony ground. Screw all priesthoods.

I agree. I'm a Christian myself, but I'm not very liberal about what the Bible says what is considered affiliated or unaffiliated. Just because what the Bible says, it doesn't always mean it's exactly right or politically correct.

I'm starting to believe that it's not just us autistic people who sees things in terms of black and white, no, it's also ANYONE in general who takes things way too seriously and believe anything what says word by word. As William Shakespeare famously stated, "A fool thinks oneself to be wise, but a wise person knows oneself to be a fool".

There are two things I know about the Bible. One, it's not written by God himself, but written by people who believed in Him. And two, since the stories from the Bible are very old, it could be misread or misinterpreted. And like I said, just because the Bible says doesn't always make it right or politically correct.

I'm not trying to offend other Christians while posting this, as I'm a Christian myself, I just want everyone to use their common sense better.

^Thank you thank you! I've been trying to tell people things like that for so long! It's nice to finally meet someone who's a little more sane than most. Honestly, meeting people like you is such a relief.

This is not entirely related, but: Why do people go up in arms over every little stinking thing as if it personally offends them????? There. My rant of the day is done. How about some nice music instead of arguments?

Reason I find it suspect is because of the time-frame that was given of happening this morning, yet a hell of a LOT of footage was released, even before noon, including Obama talking ! Not only that, try watching each and every single one of the "News is Scripted" videos that are currently available on You-Tube, combine it with the comments that you will find on videos about Putin (such as the ones where he's destroying more of ISIS in one week than all of the US and EU combined have done in an entire year... much to the dismay of the U.S. Politicians [even though they will never admit that they are actually paid/threatened/black-mailed into perpetuating ISIS]), then you might get where I'm coming from when I find all news to be suspect of being scripted until proven otherwise.

If we're going to follow Leviticus so slavishly, then we can no longer wear clothes of mixed fabrics, eat shellfish, or eat pork. Or let menstruating women touch vases or pots, lest they be destroyed. Or.... Seriously, even us Christians have no business believing in that legalistic crap!

News Flash: The shooter was Moslem - having pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State - and the Levitican Laws were given to the Jews. Christianity had nothing to do with this one.

I think the reason the fundamentalists singled out homosexuality was because they had associated it with HIV/AIDS during the height of the AIDS epidemic, and it stuck with them.

Very probably. My pastor was telling us how at one time, the big sins were adultery and divorce. Eventually, something else will replace homosexuality as the major sin in the Christian right's eyes.

Just becouse the shooting was at a gay club doesnt mean that gays were the target; it might just as well have been "any large gathering"

Also, the (alleged) shooter was muslim, so leviticus wasn't the problem either way

I think there's little question if the targets were specifically gays, as the shooter was known to hate gays.
