Anyone want more 'iron ladies'? Evolution of democracy.
So, as if somehow being elected three times in the 80s after destroying an entire industry is not enough... now the UK, in the midst of political confusion and survival of the... 'randomly fittest'... Tory 'grandees' are 'clamoring' for May to suddenly envelope this veil of liminality... or such. But no, we have not one bus but two! The two seemingly sole female candidates both seem to think that 'iron lady' was a positive label Thatcher applied to herself, or some-such. Probably like Assad gets a morale boost by counting the number of corpses surrounding him. Political corpses here, of course... Johnson has quite a huge one too...
So... two new potential dictators... whoever it is is solely elected by anyone paying more than double the fee its rival party charges (plutocracy!) as a member (unless, of course, they're somehow both conservative and under-25)... or even not, because our Grand Senate ('cabinet'?) seem to think that May is too godly to even go through balloting. Well, godly powers she seems fascinated by as besides the unholy Communications Data Bill which truly seeks to revolutionize the state by knowing exactly which porn site one goes to. Or, potentially more deadly, of course, with her pet project being the elimination of the ECHR, once out the EU, she can truly finally destroy human rights once and for all and enslave everyone because, woohoo, Teeny Britain is sovereign (or, none of this, since as we know politicians are the very symbol of hypocrisy and lies in many societies). Or, the blatant disregard of science and anyone hired by politicians themselves to supposedly offer expertise (remember David Nutt? Reality, on the other hand, can't very easily be dismissed... which is ironic considering she's supposed to be diabetic, because science is what eases such problems and the Dark Ages was full of mortality, and for what? Religion? Is it a similar sort of pure irrationality that makes public officials simply disregard science? Or, what, to get votes, even if it means people dying in greater numbers?)
So... which frenzied new 'iron lady' would you like? One on the left, right? The other aspirant was... Andrea, who avoided tax because apparently she's Christian (religion these days is all about immorality)... has certainly kept a lower profile, and at least she isn't outright threatening to damn this country to a Spanish Inquisition (and no, it won't be as funny as Monty Python).
Seriously, I thought Jacqui Smith was authoritarian to try to introduce databases... compared to her term these last six years under the likely next unelected PM, May is akin to Hades with Cerberus just picking out the last piece of vitality from every inevitably irrational decision she always made. Seriously, human life could be at stake (and was historically after every decision) because when statistics clearly indicate as, like Ireland, prohibition does not just not work, but actively contributes to deaths (because, who knew, having a safe and regulated environment doesn't actually kill anyone) - everyone could easily have learned this back in 1933, and even though the US itself didn't it is now, whereas this single home secretary has managed to ban chemistry itself. Seriously, I think it's banned to an extent that if no other scientists in the world could actually play with chemicals sufficiently to end up producing a cure for diabetes... she'll need to keep injecting insulin for the rest of her life. It's, like, she couldn't give an iota about any sort of rationality whatsoever. Andrea has done less, but by definition much less damage.

NBC: Brexit Fallout: Will Theresa May Become U.K.'s 2nd Female Prime Minister?
Announcing her leadership Thursday, May set out how she would unite a wounded party that seemed close to tearing itself apart over Brexit.
"Following last week's referendum, our country needs strong, proven leadership to steer us through this period of economic and political uncertainty," she told reporters. "And to negotiate the best possible terms as we leave the European Union."
I was surprised that Boris Johnson backed out. Saying it was because of his friend's betrayal doesn't make sense. I think someone is blackmailing him.
Why do you refer to the contenders as "Iron Lady?" I know that was Thatcher's nickname; are these women of a similar political vein.
Agreed.
That said. I'll let the other Brits handle him when they have free time from RL obligations. I find flaw in his hysterical arguments of evil facists that are ONLY old and support Brxit. But am not local enough to be sure there is no valid point in all that.
I am unaware of a "New" Thatcher status woman. So it must be that they are experiences and OVER 50. I think May is near 60.
He probably wants someone wet behind the ears like Black or the tragic Jo

Oh, this guy again!
I seem to remember Gordon Brown replacing Tony Blair much to the disappointment of both people on the Left and Right, with no general election held. I don't see you complaining about that. I also don't get your obsession with the age and characteristics of voters or politicians, seeing as both that are older than you have had more life experience and in a lot of cases acquired more knowledge.
I don't want Theresa May in power or any of the current Tories in the running, as a regular Conservative voter.
But you know, there are more important things to worry about than a perceived personality of someone in Downing Street. Life goes on.

don't we all want a stern mommy to clean up, even if she tells us to go to our rooms?
it's how darth vader got to power, and it worked out great for the empire.
I think the political chaos in the face of very difficult negotiations is very very scary for everyone, and particularly the tories, who are afraid that, if they can't find an iron lady character that holds s**t together now, the brexit-referendum might have made the party unelectable for a generation or two.

gingerpickles, are you implying that dead people can be candidates? And who's Black? It's also ironic but May happened to not support Brexit, thus quashing any of your possible logic.
TheSpectrum, Brown was six years ago. Why would I be complaining of him now? But, sure enough, there is a democratic deficit. I also didn't mention anyone's age but that which concerns registration of members (i.e. you could say the parties are systematically ageist). This isn't about personality, I wrote several paragraphs outlining exactly what she did in the past six years. And why the gif?

I believe what's good for the good is good for the gander, which is why I brought it up.
Also there was no democratic deficit in the referendum, and the Tories are not the only bunch facing a leadership crisis.
What people fail to understand is you aren't voting a personality into office for a term but the party and politics behind them. When a PM resigns during their term the opposition always requests a snap GE. Does it happen? Nope. Nor do I believe it should.
I believe Andrea Leadsom should be the one to steer the ship as she supports what the (slight) majority voted for whereas May doesn't. As for her and May being "Iron Ladies"...I feel it's too simplistic to assume that on the basis that they are women and in the conservative party. Look back at their political careers to make that assertion rather than the personality and their party. We are also very lucky to be living in the times that we do. During Thatcher's reign, whether you praise them or detest them, Britain was a very different place and many of the people making walls of texts here would no doubt cry themselves to sleep every night if they had to live it.
