Are all believers in God automatically idol worshipers?

All believers in God are following an entity that they only know by what other people have said about that God. Few, if any, know their God from apotheosis or first-hand information.

That fact makes whoever that God is, an idol.

It must be so, as what is believed is not a known or real entity. Believers have no real or personal knowledge or experience of their God. All a believer can have is faith in whichever God they are idolizing based on what others have said.

Do you, as a believer, recognize that you are an idol worshiper?

DL

No. The Argument from Design is very plausible (even though bogus). See the order and grandeur of the Cosmos. Is it so hard to believe that it was all designed by a Supreme Intelligence???

Some people who believe in God HATE idol worship. Recall the 16th-17th century Puritans.

Why does your Supreme Intelligence create the abominations you see in this link?

Indeed.

Many idol worshipers, like Christians and Muslims say they hate what they are.

I think of GOD as the force that set the order to matter.

Most scientists seek out footprints of this GOD in their efforts to find determinism in nature.

How so?
How does it "make that God an idol"?

Many believe they have personally "felt" God & therefore have first hand info.

But belief != knowledge.

I believe an invisible pink unicorn lives inside my kitchen cupboard. I have evidence too! Sometimes I hear him scratching about in there and he nibbles bits of cheese. He also leaves me gifts of tiny little black bits of rice. All praise to the invisible pink unicorn. :D

oops, just had a peak in this Gnosticism thread

Gnosticism:
- offers you a God that is distant, ahistorical
- a God that can never be seen or heard from
- cannot be depicted nor idolized
- does not have any name (and certainly not "Yahweh")
Theory:
- gnosticism is offspring of secularist societies, or a precurser to modern secularism, where people still want to remain religious in some sense, but don't believe in traditional religion
- a very "safe" type of religion, but a bit flawless

oops, ,and I'm out of this thread

They look for natural phenomenon, not supernatural phenomenon.

It is an idol because that mental construct is not real.

Most believers will not admit that they are idol worshiping the mental construct that they have invented for themselves from the words of other people and not of anything of a real God.
