I really tried to come up with the right folder for this but health and fitness didn't quite cut it, general autism didn't quite cut it, so I figured I'd throw it at a familiar audience. Moral of the story - while having a gun, baton, or other weapon is better than not having one if your trained, you'll be lucky if you have time to pull it.

I wouldn't try making an argument that an unarmed trained martial artist fairs a whole lot better against an attacker with a knife, he might as well start praying too, but unarmed and trained vs unarmed and untrained - about the only way you have any chance of stopping the arm, disarming, locking/breaking, etc. is if you've built the reflexes.

Probably not the best reason to take martial arts of course, a person's better off doing it for coordination, confidence, health, etc.. but the benefit of being able to fight well - particularly at reflex level - will likely never be obsolete.
