France is on the verge of a 'civil war' which could be sparked by the mass sexual assault of women by migrants similar to the one seen in Cologne on New Year's Eve, the country's head of intelligence has said.

He believes the situation is so tense and fragile that another major Islamist terror attack or mass migrant sexual assault could lead to a huge right-wing backlash.

Patrick Calvar, chief of the Directorate General of Internal Security, told members of the French parliamentary commission: 'We are on the brink of civil war'.

According to French newspaper Le Figaro, he said: 'This confrontation I think it will take place.

'Even one or two attacks and it will happen. It therefore behooves us to anticipate and block all these groups.'

Wake up and smell the ashes of liberalism in Europe.

It's the opinion of the head of the DGSI this time, not just some random right winger called Mikah on these forums. The American equivalent might be the head of the Department of Homeland Security publicly telling Congress that civil war is imminent, it should not be dismissed as nonsense out of hand.

some comments:

There's no rightwing or left wing, war is the distraction.
There's (another) branch of industry with enough money to lobby anything they want.

It's an interesting thought but I try not to get sucked into unfounded conspiracies, for the last 40 years it was the right wing that espoused grand theories of white genocide and world government. Now that the predictions made by conservatives are coming true, left wing groups will take up the conspiracy cause and that is what those comments are.

Instead of a world government run by Jewish anti white bankers determined to erase all races, it will be a racist world government run by evil whites who wish to enslave all others and of course that was the plan all along! Even the period of left wing governance was all carefully planned and factored into our evil demonic plot, you see, because we wanted mass immigration to deliberately cause civil war and we knew the silly left would encourage it, all so we could declare martial law and oppress gays and minorities until the end of time and guillotine all lefties and laugh evily in our doom fortresses while the poor masses scrape for food hohohohoho

OR MAYBE

Idiocy and utopian delusion got us where we are today and now it's time to pay the price. Those in authority are beginning to realise that terrible, irreversible mistakes have been made and the Director is just making a statement because he is genuinely concerned.

And, the French know precisely how to revolt, don't they? Their government leaders should take this idea seriously, but they won't. History repeats itself.

As someone who has lived in France for many years, the idea of a civil war there is complete bollocks. Enough said.

Oh yes.

You hope. I wonder which part of France you lived in. The metropolitan bourgeois London elite were "shocked" by the referendum revolt from middle England, I wonder if you too will be "shocked" when the ghettos of Paris become war zones.

If the UK referendum somehow sparked a whole civil war surely it would be in the UK, France didn't even have its elections so far. But, right-wing groups reacting? Does that actually imply all rapists in history were lefties? Also, most fear is delusional: http://www.theatlantic.com/internationa ... ors/480171

It doesn't say anywhere that the referendum is the cause. It's the same tensions that created the leave vote that could lead to war in France.

Reacting against the migrants, not the Left.

And sometimes it is rational. People have seen what happens to "vibrant" areas with lots of outsiders. They don't want their own neighbourhoods to follow the same path.

I appreciate your view, but can you elaborate on it.
We, who don't live in France, could be better informed if you would tell us more.

Many thanks. :D

Le Pen's polling numbers have surged, and every act of barbarism drives them higher. People can ignore that if they will, but it seems worrying to me.

Quote:

That seems a tragedy to me. Civilization is at stake and the barbarians want to rip it all down and drive us back to the 5th century. Is that the fault of those who want to drive us forward instead of backwards? I think the EU's immigration policy is at fault here. The idea of no internal barriers is a noble one, though.

So, which side are you on? The side which strives to perfect 21st century society, or the side which strives to drive us backwards?

Not the ashes of liberalism, but the ashes of left-wing globalism, wouldn't you say? The result may be a new patriotic liberal nationalism in many countries.

theashes ofneo-liberalism, I'd like to emphasize.
and yes, nationalist, economic neo-liberalism is likely. (and for an economical leftie who thinks nationalism in europe hasn't turned out so well in the past, which is why this whole multiculturalism/EU thing was started in the first place, it's a nightmare. I know Americans have a different opinion on these matters, but your country has this grand narrative of a great nation (which has been cracking as well, lately), whereas we have a grand narrative of we'll-exterminate-each-other-if-we-don't)

other parts of the world are already on it, India's Modi fits the description of an economic liberal, globalization-friendly ultra-nationalist.

I find it hard to believe that such a substitution is an advancement. Globalism is a more complex structure, which advances the concept of civilization to a new height. Civilization is about cities, about more and more complex social structures. Surely the EU was an attempt at building a larger, more complex structure?
