Is it the Christians? Or those Arabs? Or maybe it is those Muslims?

Who shall I point my gun at?

Every Eurasian civilization in the last five thousand years at least oppressed women: Pagan, those with Abrahamic religions, those with eastern religions (China, India, Japan). You cant pin it on any particular Old World religion, or culture.

In the developing world - religion and men.

In the developed world individuals have mostly themselves to blame.

It's thousands of years old. People have just kept doing it. We've made a lot of progress, but there is no place in the world where all those traditions aren't still alive in some form... there are certainly a lot of people who benefit from them, particularly those who have something to sell, to make people feel like "real men" and "real women".

Both are my opinions, not facts.

Agriculture....mostly, it surely contributed in this.

Even though hunters and gatherers weren't/aren't that egalitarian as some feminists claim.

Ground-dwelling social primates all feature bigger, stronger, more hormonally aggressive males - even the bonobos (which were descended from chimp-like species).

Giving that men are physically stronger and bigger than women, that means, evolutionary speaking....we evolved somehow in non-egalitarian way in some phase; and that strength difference is the main reason that led to inequality over the eons.

Parents are to blame because they keep raising their sons to be brave and strong and their daughters to be timid and paranoid.

Human sex and gender inequality was inherited from our non-human ancestors. Most social animals have some sort of division in the social standing between the sexes.

Chimps are patriarchal. Males are dominant over females and form bands which engage in organized warfare with other groups of chimps, and territory patrol. Bonobos are matriarchal. Females dominant males. Elephants are matriarchal. Males are kicked out of the herd when they reach puberty because they begin to sexually harass their female family members...though this kicking out is really just prodding for them to leave, which they will on their own anyway to find females to mate with. Gorillas are not exactly matriarchal or patriarchal, but females will gravitate to a silverback male, forming a harem, and he will prevent other males from mating with them, but females will occasionally go off and mate with an outside male.

Male cats will dominate females when she is in heat, but she will ultimately mate with multiple male cats during that time. In everyday interaction, however, males eventually come to dominate females because cat dominance for non mating purposes is based on seniority and size, and eventually the larger cats realize they are larger, and take advantage of that, and male cats are generally larger than female cats.

So evolution is ultimately to blame for gender inequality.
