On December 13, 2001 Fox News reported the arrest of 200 Israeli agents operating in the United States. Fox News also learned that an investigation was under way connecting some of the Israeli agents to the 911 attacks. The four part report also highlights the risk to telephone security because of Israeli companies that are contracted to monitor phone records in the U.S. Carl Cameron, who filed the report with Fox News, notes that no one from the government would talk publicly with him because to do so was “career suicide”. To this day none of the suspects have been tried and many are believed to be safely living in Israel.
Eight days after Fox aired the first report on the Israeli spy scandal it was pulled from their website and never seen or mentioned again on the air. Internet users searching the Fox News site for the story would instead find the words that have become famous in online news circles: “This story no longer exists”. For years the video of this report was feared lost until several months ago it resurfaced on the internet. Either someone had saved a copy or it was smuggled out of Fox News.
