Why Pope Francis have better publicity among atheist and unbelievers than among Catholics?

i‘m Polish just I watch on TV live broadcasts from World Youth Day which this time are in Poland :-)
I like Pope, but many Poles and even priests not like Pope stance Pope Francis I
for his stance on Refuges issue, and calling his pontificate to much Left-wing :-)

Well, here are a few observations...

The Good:
- He is a Jesuit (and the first Jesuit Pope), which is probably the most compassionate major faction within the Catholic Church
- He is strongly committed to take action against climate change
- His focus on alleviating poverty suggests that he has actually *read* the Greatest Commandment, unlike some (predominantly American Evangelical) Christians
- He apparently rejects the Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus doctrine
- He is significantly less condemning towards homosexuality than his predecessors
- He likes rock music

The Bad:
- Still no change concerning Catholic doctrine wrt. prostitution, condoms and HIV... despite scientific evidence showing that legalizing prostitution and encouraging condom use will drastically reduce the number of HIV infections
- Still head of a faith that considers itself qualified to dictate how women use their bodies... while simultaneously denying women access to leadership positions

I think it might be a pendulum effect, seeing as he's the successor of Pope Palpatine.

Why secular folks like the current pope is understandable given the above mentioned views he has of gays, interest in global warming, etc.

Why he is reviled by some Catholics is a mystery to me.

One Catholic on WP even said that she thought this new pope is "Satanic"!

Huh?

Well, I'm a Protestant - a Lutheran to be exact - so I'm not a big fan of most Popes, but I certainly like this one.

He's a pretty compassionate person.

While the superficial resemblance probably didn't help, I'd like to think it has something to do with his failure to act against and personal involvement in covering up large-scale sexual abuse of children. I suspect his resignation for "health reasons" had more to do with the fact that his culpability was starting to undermine the supposed infallability of the pope.

What do you appreciate in Pope Francis?

Because he looks at the spirit behind scripture, not the letter.

I grew up Catholic and I saw recently that Paul Joseph Watson put him on blast - I'd have to agree with his assessments. If the guy's hardly done a thing about pedophilia within the church and has been all for the EU plan of unmitigated immigration from the middle east - his political influence isn't being used intelligently.

Well many great leaders resigned due "health reasons" such as Nikita Khrushchev for exemple, i wonder does Pope Benedict XVI "health reasons" ware similar to his :D

Quite possible.

There's also this little gem:

Joseph Ratzinger, Head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith wrote:
“One can’t put on trial such a close friend of the pope.”

Said in regards to one Marciel Maciel. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_sc ... ial_Maciel)

Benedict was known to be conservative.

Francis is quite a maverick Pope---but he's still a Catholic, so he, inevitably, has conservative views on at least some things. He's very common-sensical, though.

I think that he's just an old man in a funny hat and an even funnier bathrobe, whom too many people seem to think possesses the spiritual hotline to God.

As a Polish Catholic myself, I think John Paul II is the greatest pope of them all. But as GGPViper points out, the Catholic church must certainly start looking into the ordination of women. A position that Luke Timothy Johnson shares as well.
