Trump is a real estate man, not a politician. That is why he won.
If you have to ask that question you did not read or completely missed the main points of the article. Summarizing the main points of the article.
Fascism today will not look like Nazi Fascism.
Fascism takeovers in "civilized" countries are not a sudden one day you are living in a non fascist country the next day you are. It is a "slippery slope" type of process.
That said I feel some things were missed by the author possibly because he is on the "left" side of the political spectrum or is from Ireland and not overly familiar American politics.
This article did not mention Trump but it is very obvious the Trump phenomenon was what the article is meant to address. The "slippery slope" is well underway and has been long before Trump. While its rhetoric did not conform to fascist rhetoric the Obama administration was fascist in my view with its further cooperate - government melding togeather (see Obamacare), its security state, constant breaking of international and domestic law with executive decisions assassinating people sans trial etc. Obama was doubling down on what was going on before him.
The author noted that SJW's/Political correctness is today's version of the Jews, the boogieman undermining the values of the nation. The author is correct in this regard but unlike Jews in 20's and 30's Germany SJW's are undermining basic American values. While technically not prohibiting "free speech", it is the campus administrators not the government prohibiting a lot of speech the SJW's intimidation and mob mentality fits right in with how authoritarians fascist and communist gain power.
The economy is not or not yet nearly as bad as in the Weimar Republic so the fascism/authoritarianism to come probably will not be nearly as brutal or look like Nazi Germany, but Nazi Germany is an extremely low bar to set and a convenient distraction.
The Trump phenomenon has speeded up the "slippery slope" in America in pretty obvious ways.
