There's no consensus among Muslims regarding whether Earth is round or flat because the Quran is unclear about (God like to say things in "mysterious ways" lol....) ; some schools of "thoughts" believe in flat earth like the salafis, while other do not. Both nitpick quotes that are more suitable to their views (and even the round-earth quotes aren't much clear and probably not scientifically accurate).

Lately flat-earth muslims were promoting this short video everywhere. I didn't search who ODD are but I bet they're some Christian creationist thing.

^ They sound like more of a general crackpot conspiracy group than creationists per se.

Is the Arabic on the screen just a translation of the English, or is it commentary of some kind?

Wow, interesting, a very well-presented Documentary showing various reasons and providing plenty of reasonable counter-points as to how and why the world really IS flat after all !
I think I need to take this a step even further and say that this is a conspiracy originating outside of earth...!

The percentage of Christians who believe the flat earth theory is also very small.

It's translation.

Yes, but they're very vocal. Muslim flat-earthers aren't that many, usually the radical groups/cults believe in flat earth, such as MB and Wahabists and the more-vocal about it the Al-Ahbash cult.

Omg, this changes my perspective entirely. I don't know what to think now. Is the Earth round or is it flat?! Oh wait, that's right, I don't care.

If the Earth were flat, there would be constant news reports of people falling off it.

Wouldn't that be so funny?

Flat earth people claim there are military forces, particularly American forces, controlling the edges of earth, all in total secrecy (no f*****g leak?) :| 8O

Do you imagine how many millions of troops you need for that? 8O

Boku Harum (the African terror group that kidnapped the school girls) officially denies the existence of "evaporation". Forget about evolution. They dont even believe that water evaporates the way scientists say it does. I dont know what their stance on the shape of the earth is.

According to modern flat earthers the earth is NOT shaped like your standard schoolroom rectangular flat map with the north pole at the top, and the south pole at the bottom.

Its round, but flat, like the U.N. Seal. The continent of Antarctica is like the crust around the whole pizza (and NOT that blob shaped continent at the bottom of the map/globe). Though the north pole is still a point (its whats at the center of the Pizza where the slices meet)the south pole is really the whole circumferential circle around the flat earth. So only a few folks ever venture to the "edge" of the planet (which is in effect, one and the same thing as the south pole in antarctica). The first two to reach the edge were the rival explorers (Amundsen and Scott) in 1914. Amundsen got there and made it back, but Scott and his party supposedly died of starvation down there. But who knows? Maybe Scott, and his party, really fell off the edge of the Earth! The real story MUST have been....covered up!! !! !

And even today very few folks venture to the South Pole in a given year. So thats why you rarely hear about folks "falling off the edge" of the earth.

In conclusion....the sinister powers at be dont really need big armies to fend off busybodies who try look over the edge of the Earth. The nasty Antarctic climate does the work for them...of keeping prying eyes away!

Like Discworld? :D

The most obvious problem with flat earth theories, is that it fails to explain why the Earth tends to be warmer toward the equator and cooler toward the poles. If the Earth were truly flat, then one would expect Earth's climates to be completely uniform. There'd be no seasons, either.

Had to google "Discworld". Sounds like a wild fun read. Yeah. It would be like that.

This is how modern flat earthers conceive it. You can see how the continent of Antarctica forms a circular wall around the flat disc edge of the planet. That would explain why the seas don't flow off the edge of the earth: Antarctica walls them in like the edge of a circular flat pan! Lol!

About the seasons: actually modern flat earthers are at odds with the ancient flat earth cultures of old about how the Sun behaves.

The ancients, like the Egyptians, assumed that the sun rose in the east, and then traveled across the sky, and then set in the west, and then went underneath the flat earth at night, and then would rise again at the eastern edge of our side of the flat earth in the morning again. Which is exactly what it appears to do.

According to modern flat earthers the sun never goes below our side of the flat earth. What it does is to go in a circle above our side of the flat earth. The sun is a glowing 30 mile wide ball that cruises the sky several hundred miles above this side of the flat disc shaped earth and it goes in a circular path around an axis coming out of the north pole. The seasons change because the sun's circular hovering above the earth oscillates in width: widest in the winter when it goes over the southern hemisphere tropic of Capricorn, over the equator at the equinoxes, and over the northern hemisphere tropic of cancer in the summer.

So that explains why the sun is more overhead is some seasons than others- and "explains" the seasons.

Trouble is with that scheme IMHO is that it robs Peter to pay Paul: it tries to explain how the sun acts over the course of the year at price of contradicting how the sun acts during a single day. You can see for yourself that the sun "sets" at night: the solar disc stays the same size, and that is disappears bottom-first behind the horizon. If the sun did what modern flat earthers suggest the sun would set by also getting closer to the horizon, but it would never be seen to go below the Horizon, and it would also appear to get smaller, and it would veer off to the right as it approached the horizon and never actually touch the horizon (much less go under the horizon). The Sun would act like the light on the end of train (disappear by gradually getting smaller rather than disappear by going under the Horizon).

That's incorrect. The sun is flat.

The video's music sounds like the kind Scientology has playing on their propaganda videos.

Please don't equate Flat-Earth with something as hokey as Scientology in any way. This is serious stuff here.
