I am so sick and tired of security theater

I am sick and tired of security theater dominating politics and being used to make or uphold effed up policies. For example, the Democratic platform for 2016 recommended keeping FATCA and citizenship-based taxation, law that has really hurt our expats and made it very difficult for many of them to live normal lives and compete abroad, because in part they claimed it would help in "fighting terrorism". And now, you've got this BS executive order coming out from Trump that has caused massive disruption and needless hardship because they were, again, "fighting terrorism".

Terrorism doesn't even really cause that many deaths in the US, judging from this report:

Preventable medical errors, however, do. 200,000 Americans die every year because of our fragmented medical system which is poorly designed for delivery of care. But you don't see our politicians pulling our all the stops to ensure that we have integrated medical care available to all. Instead, for frigging security theater, they pass all these BS laws and keep more such laws that cause needless hardship for "fighting terrorism".

I'm sick and tired of this crap.

I often get the feeling it's just an excuse to exercise authority and make certain people feel unwelcome. People would rather worry about terrorism than the fact that they could get cancer tomorrow and not be able to afford treatment.

Israelis seem to enjoy their security theater. After all, they have been watching it play out for decades like a bad soap opera. But, I must wonder: How has it helped them? Those who would attack Israel continue to do so seemingly unabated. It is almost as if Israelis have a case of Munchausen Syndrome. Otherwise, I don't understand why their political policies continue to be so popular among citizens.
