I'm having some concerns about America being messed up.

It's the argument made by Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars.

Freedom comes from oppression

See, without oppression, people will make the wrong choices, and therefore, are not free.

Compared to many other nations, the US truly has a decent amount of freedom for its citizens. Obviously, were not perfect.....but it would be hyperbole to state that we have NO freedom.

The First Commandment and the First Amendment are fundamentally incompatible. The US is not, and has never been, and will never be a Christian nation.

^I do NOT mean religious-wise, I mean all in general for the US, depending on reason.

Your link is coming from an extreme perspective. I don't think you and I draw the same lines between religion and everything else.

The U.S. is still largely run by a bunch of lawless criminals. There was NO law here to begin with...; Lawless criminals and their ridiculous kangaroo-courts. The majority of these so-called judges are treasonous criminals.

Surprisingly topical comment, above. In this case, the personal crusade fits the subject at hand. Lawless elites plague all systems of government, but especially those who massacre the elites as a starting point. I don't know if it's a function of humanity, or merely a function of all systems of which I am aware. I don't know of a way to eliminate them; people kind of worship the elites, as I see it, and enjoy their lawlessness.

I put it to you that democracies which preserve freedom of expression have a less severe problem than theocracies, for starters, and any other authoritarian form of government.

We have laws to protect people and to keep everyone safe, laws are always there for a reason. If everyone had morals and used common sense, we wouldn't even have them but sadly I think lot of people are really that stupid so we have laws for it. Or not only are they stupid, maybe lot of people don't care so we need laws.

I feel League Girl pretty much hit it on the head.

Even people like Neanderthal Man had laws that they lived by. Without laws, our species would die off really quickly.

Laws can increase freedom, as some have mentioned. People try to use the law to punish people they dislike, rather than using it to address the kind of problems where it can work. I don't think we need a law to cover every eventuality, and we will all have relatives in prison if we try.

Yes, laws can be abused.

Nowadays, though, this is being addressed somewhat. More and more people are being arrested for "falsely reporting an incident" (per New York law).

It's arrogance to think you know how people should live.

I think most people in the world actually like the laws pertaining to freedom that apply to US Citizens.

But, it really ticks them off that we routinely enforce laws or institute actions contrary to those laws for the rest of the world.

So are you in favour of living in a society where there are no consequences for committing murder and enslaving people?

We need laws to stop people from telling other people how to live. Yes, the law should be unrestrictive as possible, but make it too unrestrictive and someone else will start telling people how to live.

Then what's stopping bad people from doing bad things to you and others without the law? As a matter of fact, I do have the right to insist that others don't have the right to steal from me, or kill my family and friends.
