If my low self-esteem just an illusion?
If I had high self-esteem would that also be an illusion?

Is one's self-image something contructed by the mind with little relation to reality?

My low self-esteem may be false but that would mean any high self-esteem I derive would also be false.

Maybe a psychologist could work her techniques and replace my low self-esteem with high self-esteem but that just seems like replacing one illusion with another.

Is this type of thinking useful or is it just navel-gazing?

I think it could be a "mental construct."

But I also believe it could be justified, based on reality--and it could help you, too.

I think you're stimming around that naval a little too much.

Frankly, you're not fobbing off somebody, you're not stealing somebody's food, you treat people decently. Why not have decent self-esteem

Who the f--- cares whether or not you got many dates when you were in high school?

I think every situation has both positive and negative aspects about it and whatever frame of mind you are in will decide if you choose to see the positives or the negatives and that will be what you dwell on and what will form your outlook of the situation. Am I just babbling or did that make sense?
