Why can't America recover?
America can't recover from:
*debt
*extreme left-wing ideology
*political correctness/society
*mass illegal immigration
*media
*international and domestic threats
The list can go on. I'm beginning to think the left is becoming more like satan.
I'm ashamed as an American to been born in the millennial generation.
I am starting to even believe that it is God's WILL that America will fail. After all, I was told by someone who didn't even like Obama that Obama will be elected will be God's doing. Man, do I hate God. I'm sorry if some people been triggered, I'm just sick of everything.
America isn't going to fail.
We don't have a problem with "extreme left-wing ideology." We have a problem with people taking political positions without thinking, and without listening to others. Both left and right.
Yes, we have a problem with political correctness.
We don't have too many Marxists in Congress. A desire for universal health care doesn't make one a "commie."
America has been through much worse. We'll be get through this.

Even if there was something wrong with left wing ideology, what's the alternative? Right wing ideology?
Most domestic threats come from the right.
There is no mass illegal immigration.
The validity of the press is mentioned in the constitution, so we need the media.
How is the left becoming like Satan?

Why is everything always "the Left"'s fault? What, exactly, IS "the left" anymore anyway?
Here is why I think the U.S. "can't recover".
a) Wall Street shysters constantly sabotaging the system.
b) Lack of gun control due to your antiquated 2nd Amendment.
c) The belief that many in your country have, especially your politicians, that the U.S. is somehow "exceptional" and therefore doesn't need to abide by the rules of civilised behaviour.
d) Military adventurism.
e) An excessive religiosity. In the name of the god that doesn't exist, why?!
f) Hollywood. Need I say more?
g) Rampant materialism and greed.
h) A nation that produces vacuous, superficial 'celebrities' who are seen as being founts of wisdom for some inexplicable (to the rest of the world) reason. What is it with that?
Look, just stay the hell away from the rest of us and everything will be fine. We can just sit back, relax and watch from a distance your country implode. Hopefully when it does it won't take too many other nations along with it.

I rather like Hollywood and it's movie industry. But otherwise, there is validity to your points.

"we"? who the heck is "we"?
most of those are in no way exclusive to the states. only difference being the rest of the world is exposed to it more.
considering the fact that the US, in its formative early years was flooded by those looking to escape religious persecution in europe...it makes sense that the two regions would have different attitudes to religion.
either way, those are valid points.
this is why people ask questions.

There has been no empire that has not eventually self destructed.

Debt - debt can't be eliminated, but it can be managed.
Left-wing ideology - both "wings" are extremist, there has to be a meeting in the middle.
Political correctness/society - other people never go away.
Mass illegal immigration - immigration should be made easier for law abiding people.
Media - there are multiple outlets, so there are a variety of views presented.
International and domestic threats - a sign of the times, it won't change either.

I do think excess religiosity has something to do with it, especially with a good percentage of anyone right of center believing that it's the unfolding of Satan's plan, the end of the world, tribulation around-the-corner, and that the most advisable plan is to hunker down and wait for the end. It's not that these people would actually have good ideas to combat identity politics and postmodernism, they wouldn't, they'd want to take us back to the 1950's or farther back. Still their own unreason in general, along with the 'wait for the rapture' bit is a little Heavens Gate like and radically pessimistic and it enables to radical left to take over legislature and judiciary and make the laws of the land for them.
I think what might actually change things - odds look good that colleges as we know them are going to radically change for the fewer, far lower student count, and far more online learning programs and degrees in their stead (possibly curved for difficulty and credibility). That will likely be a mixed blessing - on one hand far fewer kids going to school and coming back radicalized by their gender and race studies professors, OTOH probably a lot more pragmatism and a lot less humanizing - ie. education may very well become exactly what the corporate world needs - no more no less, which means people aren't going to be well-rounded in their learning and perspectives.

The United States has gone through similar times, though, too frequently, such times were much worse than today.
When the nation roils, all demographic and economic sectors tend to circle the wagons and entrench against possible results. So, it shouldn't be surprising that, this time around, liberals want to return to their organized labor roots (the last time they had any success in their own futures) while conservatives want to return to their Eisenhower-era economic stability (the last time they also had any real success; Reagan was merely a poor reboot of Eisenhower).
But, as these sectors double down again and again in hopes that their ideologies will save the day, their supporters remain blind to how they are the losers in such tenuous and extremist entrenchments. Their "leaders" care not about them; only about "winning."
So, cheer your favored teams if you must, but understand that the outcome has been planned in advance, and is being played out whether we care or not.

I don't think it's a divide with regard to religion, I think it's about racism. The "alt right" don't like immigration or integration because they are racists. Religion and the economy are just cloaks.
I predict that racism will become more mainstream in the years to come (in the guise of anti-terrorism.)

And how is that much different then when the USA was the height of its influence?

America doesn't have a problem with debt, so can't recover from it.
America doesn't have a problem with extreme left-wing ideologies, so can't recover from them.
America doesn't have a problem with political correctness, so can't recover from it.
America doesn't have a problem with mass illegal immigration, so can't recover from it.
I guess you could make the case that America has a problem with TV news. The solution there is regulation, which all parties are reluctant to suggest in case it is unconstitutional. However, America has the best print media in the world.
Very vague. Your main domestic threat is the President, but he won't be around forever and you recovered from Bush. His supporters are still a threat, but the basket of deplorables are only a vocal subsection of his supporters. You should be able to stop enough of the non-deplorable ones from voting for Trump or a similar candidate again by offering an appealing economic narrative.
In what sense?
Don't be. You are part of the greatest generation. Yes, you could live in a better country, but in the grand scheme of things, America's OK, and despite the terrible events of the last year, it's largely never been better.
Don't worry. God almost certainly does not exist.
