Hi all.

A while ago, I made a thread in Computers, Math, Science and Technology all about why interstellar travel will be unrealistic for a long time. Today, I want to talk about why humanity isn't ready to explore the Solar System either. I think that we will be technologically ready to explore the solar system long before we are politically ready.

Modern politics is a huge mess. Nationalism is the main thing that has ruined modern politics. Imagine if we started colonizing the solar system with the political system of today. One planet would be conquered by America. Another would be conquered by Russia or China. This could lead to a nuclear war. In a century or so, this could lead to the utter destruction of several planets and moons in the solar system. I also fear that certain moons in the solar system could be turned into inescapable prison camps.

Trump has even discussed the possibility of space wars. That should be a red flag.

This is why we have to fix the problems here on earth at the moment. Humans aren't politically ready for space.

Some right-wingers insist that nationalism is natural and will never go away. If that is true, then global nuclear war is pretty much inevitable at this point. This means that space exploration is out of the question. Humanity will be extinct before 2100 unless we, as a species, outgrow the childish myth of nationalism.

It's cold and dark up there and you can't get your bread and milk. Why go?

haha. I love the Elon Musk fanboys argueing that we have to settle on Mars, because the climate crisis will make life on earth .... difficult.
Somehow, they seem to be convinced that creating "climate" from scratch is the easier thing than not entirely ruining the one here on earth.

Even after global warming reaches its worst-case scenario, the Earth will still have more life than Mars.
