"e-commerce" is probably the biggest economic event in the last twenty years.
Some changes:
-comparison shopping is easier, thus, facilitating a "race to the bottom" in prices.
-numerous retail stores, newspapers, bookstores are gone now. In the US, Toys-R-Us recently closed. Giants like Sears and Kmarts are closing many stores and are near bankruptcy.
-online products/services can be bought that utilize cheaper overseas labor, thus greatly reducing costs (for example, Indian companies provide information services such as legal document drafting or medical bill processing for much cheaper)
-online information companies like "Legal Zoom" and "Rocket Lawyer" have lessened the need for lawyers.
-online music file sales have lowered record sales
-self-employment sites like "elance" lets people sell their services directly.
