Quote:
"In the 158th year of the American civil war, also known as 2018, the Confederacy continues its recent resurgence. Its victims include black people, of course, but also immigrants, Jews, Muslims, Latinos, trans people, gay people and women who want to exercise jurisdiction over their bodies. The Confederacy battles in favour of uncontrolled guns and poisons, including toxins in streams, mercury from coal plants, carbon emissions into the upper atmosphere, and oil exploitation in previously protected lands and waters.
Its premise appears to be that protection of others limits the rights of white men, and those rights should be unlimited. The Brazilian philosopher of education Paulo Freire once noted that “the oppressors are afraid of losing the ‘freedom to oppress’”. Of course, not all white men support extending that old domination, but those who do see themselves and their privileges as under threat in a society in which women are gaining powers, and demographic shift is taking us to a US in which white people will be a minority by 2045."

The American civil war didn't end. And Trump is a Confederate president

How can he be a Confederate when he's from New York?

Just because racist idiots from the South worship him that doesn't make him a Confederate.

BTW I'm from the South and not all white Southerners are racist idiots.

Honestly I find stuff like this offensive. Americans just can't let go of a stupid war that happened well over 150 years ago.

So, you're saying Trump is a racist?

That's the first time I heard that. :P

Well maybe America will blow itself up in civil war and then the People's Republic of China can take its rightful place as the most powerful nation in the world.

I used to think that, but I really don't see my people fighting in a second Civil War. We've had turmoil before like what went on in the 1960's and 70's and what's happening today is nothing compared to that. Besides I think my people nowadays are too lazy and cynical to fight against their own government.

We have turned into a country of would-be deserters, not would-be warriors.

I think Trump is a dickhead....I believe he wants to make the Constitution suit him.

But I wouldn't go so far as to label him a Nazi or a Confederate or one of those types of people.

He's just some dickhead who wants a personality cult built around him, and wants to make money.

We have to stop using hyperbole. We make ourselves look foolish that way.

If the Democrats get back the House, this will help things greatly. If we get back the Senate, man o man!

(I'm not a Democrat--but I believe more in their precepts than the Republican precepts, though I agree with some of the things the Republicans profess).

I agree, and he wants to feel like he's above the law by changing all of our laws to suit his own selfishness.

But he will be out of office after a few years and whatever damages he causes will most likely end up being repaired by our government as they scratch their heads wondering how a buffoon like him managed to become president of an entire country.

American Urban Segregation
Quote:
Despite stereotypes and history that depict the south as racist and segregated, the north is by far more segregated than the south. As a matter of fact the northeast and midwest are the most segregated areas in the United States with the top five Black-White segregated metropolitan areas being Milwaukee, Detroit, New York City, Chicago, and Cleveland. Of the top twenty most segregated metros one Birmingham is in the South and Los Angeles is in the West.

In the large urban cities of the north, African American populations remain mostly in the neighborhoods that were left to them as a result of “white flight” that took place after the civil rights movements and the riots of the 1960s. As blacks moved to new neighborhoods, whites moved further away to avoid forced school integration and the threat of dropping property values. Some of the large Metros that have low Black-White segregation are Las Vegas NV, Raleigh NC, San Jose CA, Phoenix AZ, Orlando FL, San Antonio and Austin TX.

Study: LI one of the most segregated places in the U.S.
Quote:
According to a new study, Long Island is one of the most segregated places in the United States. The new report finds Nassau and Suffolk counties are nearly as segregated today as 30 years ago. According to Newsday, the study finds segregation between blacks and whites was 74.1 percent in 2009. It was 74.4 percent segregated in 2000. Experts say the reasons for Long Island's severe segregation go back more than 60 years, to the end of World War II, when the Island's population was booming and covenants prevented blacks from moving into certain neighborhoods.Elaine Gross, president of the Syosset-based organization Erase Racism, says the Island's racial divide, especially as it relates to schooling, is bad for everyone. "We are really leaving behind a segment of the population that could be, if well-educated, could be real contributors to the region," she says. New York City tops the list of the country's most segregated major metropolitan areas, followed by Milwaukee, Wis. and Newark, N.J.

There are a few but not many Confederate monuments up here but there are many Trump “monuments” up here.

Some of the biggest KKK marches and penetration of the government have been north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Trump is a product of the region with arguably the most institutionalized racism in the country.

There was much more de jure racism in the South until the 1960s. But there was much de facto racism in the North.

It was, in general, easier to be black in the North than the South....but it was no bed of roses for blacks in the North, either.

There were, and are, many Southerners who are not racist in the least. There were, and are, many Northerners who are quite racist. I've encountered both.

Same here. Also the Civil Rights movement actually started in the South.

Does that mean he's the president of confederates or that he's a president who's confederate?

The Confederates were Southern States that basically wanted to break away from the U.S. and become their own country during the American Civil War.

Trump is not only from New York which is a Northern State but he's the president of the entire country. I seriously doubt he would want to break the states up because then he would loose power and we all know how much this guy likes power.

Just because he's racist that does not make him Confederate. Whoever wrote this article clearly has no idea what the Confederates were about.

I'm from the South and I can tell you for a fact: the Confederacy lost. Trump is not a "Confederate President." There is no "Confederate resurgence." There hasn't been a time in my life where Confederate symbols and monuments are being vilified to the point of insanity.

I don't think the confederate president analogy is of value. To deal with problematic situations, it's of prime importance first to accurately name them for precisely what they are. Trump would be more realistically described as a mega cult leader motivated solely by accruing more and more power and personal wealth, a con man with clear and obvious extreme sociopathic qualities, methods and intentions.

Basically I agree with this summary from a retired FBI agent:
