I'll be 60 in 50 years and eligible to collect on Social Security (widow/widower's benefit), and then be able to collect my full benefit when I turn 70.

Question is, will this be a good time to retire based on the political and economic climate of the USA?

Ten years old is way too early to retire :D

Seriously, my mom did that and it worked out great for her. She works part time too.

At age 70 she is going to get her growing +24% SS.

Some SS advisors are saying, "Take it early because of the projected shortfall".

You get your full Social Security benefits at age 67.

How much would you be getting from other source?

Your benefits at age 60 might not amount to that much.

I would never retire if my total net income once I retire is $3,000 per month or less. I would wait until I get more.

I would never opt for Social Security at age 62. If you work, they take away half your benefits once you make about $17,000 a year or so if you retire before age 65. At 65, it’s 1/3 of your benefits at a higher salary threshold.

Full retirement age is 67 but you get more benefits if you wait until you are 70!
How's that for government doublespeak?

I have a pretty good portfolio of investments, but I'd prefer to do the transition in a robust, stable economy. A lot of retirees had to return back to work in the 2008 crash.

Will the government be well run enough to count on benefits promised in ten years?

The experts say it's all about equal.

You get about the same regardless of when you take SS.

Social Security, according to a worst-case scenario, will run out in 15 years.

If some a**hole like Trump is in office, then this might come to fruition. Otherwise, I believe some solution will be arrived at.

I would get $1,500 a month should I retire at 62, $2,300 should I retire at 67. No matter what the “experts” say.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

That means you get about $300 a month more than previously, I would assume.

Nope just $786 from $765.
I’m getting my work income for now but come March housing will take it all I’m just hoping they don’t take more and leave me worse off.

You can't possibly live off of $786/month.

Near me, the cheapest 1 bedroom, most undesirable apartment is $550/month.

I rent with family and we get housing assistance.
I get $550-650 ish from work for now until March. It’s been nice, I’m going have to cut back a lot in March.

Property taxes, oil+maintenance contract, electricity, water/sewer, and internet cost me $9000 a year.

I've learned enough about cooking to buy stuff on sale and make something tasty out of it. I can easily eat it over and over again until it is all gone.

The big uncertainty is health care insurance. I have no idea what that will cost in ten years.
