Trump Touts ‘Disaster’ As A Way To Make America Great Again

Donald Trump IS a disaster, and look at how 'great' America has become under his administration.

The Reichstag Fire provided a sort of "legitimacy" for the Nazis. It was probably started by them.

I feel like this "government shutdown" thing could lead to an attempt by Trump to declare some sort of "state of emergency," and to acquire broader executive powers.

A very dangerous game he's playing, indeed. We have to be wary of this possibility.

"The first weapon deployed in war is fear, and the first casualty of war is truth."

Come to think of it ... if Trump wants to draw an analogy to the Reichstag fire, let's draw an analogy to the Berlin Wall. Remember that? The Commies built a wall around West Berlin to keep its  slaves  citizens from escaping East Berlin to the west and freedom.

It seems that to escape communist-held East Berlin, people would climb, drive through, fly over, and tunnel under the wall to escape. Eventually, the wall was torn down and the two Berlins re-united.

Let Trump have his wall. Then we'll make a mockery of it. Then it will come down.

Then Trump will be forgotten.

If Trump ever invokes the Reichstag Fire seriously, he's asking for trouble.

A textbook case on how to establish a dictatorship in a weak democracy.

Would overthrowing Trump be feasible?

Does that mean you're cool with the U.S. government violently overthrowing its constituency?

No, it was an honest question. You're not going to get trolled by a hobbyist sysadmin. I don't maintain the security of your internet access just to screw with people. Calling me a troll is like screaming in my library.

Either you view the government as infallible or you support the inalienable right to overthrow it, I'm not aware of much middle ground there in terms of U.S. politics.

It would set a bad precedent if we overthrow Trump. I don't believe it's advisable. Let the legal process proceed.

We've never had a coup d'etat. Once we get one, others will follow. We'll become like a "banana republic" before you know it.

Not a good idea, in general.

That's interesting--I just watched Fahrenheit 11/9 yesterday and it also drew a parallel with the chaos Trump seems to be trying to foment to make the public more amenable to his agenda and the Reichstag fire and how it's suspected that the Nazis may have started to fire to whip up fear in the populace and make them more amenable to a fascist regime.

I'll probably get teased now for watching a Michael Moore film, because that makes me look like more of a "hysterical liberal". Whatever, it was a good movie and just one of many that I've watched.

We have to stop him through our system of "checks and balances." And we will stop him if we use "checks and balances" properly.

We are a strong country----because we don't have to resort to overthrowing somebody we don't like.

There was a plot to overthrow the U.S. government by fascists in 1934. But it was foiled, thanks to General Smedley Butler. One of the players was Prescott Bush, George H.W. Bush's daddy.
