A world ran by Aspies
Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions but the environment here is literally outstanding. I'm new here and have been browsing around in various areas. Everyone seems to be very civil when discussing topics that usually get people very fired up and emotional, there are disagreements but any community will have that. Logical thinking seems to be in abundance here. I have been in a handful of forums throughout my life and I've got to say, this community is by far the best I have ever encountered. It makes me really think, how much better would this world be if government and politics were ran by Aspies and scientists? I know this isn't a topic that would attract a lot of replies so I don't expect it too, I'm more just extremely impressed with the abundance of kindness, respect and rational minds.
The myth is autistic people have big problems with social skills, I know it applies to "face to face" social interactions, but social skills within this forum are outstanding. It makes me question that statement, do autistic people really have a lack of social skills or just a lack of comfort in face to face social environments? For me personally, I pick up on negative judgement very easily, no matter how much I try to block it out it doesn't work, I don't even have to think about it I'm just aware it is occurring. I get it whether I try to talk or not. It's hard for me to talk to your average person because the things they commonly talk about are not interesting to me, so I have no idea how to comment. The same applies when I try to talk, your average person doesn't have interest in things I choose to talk about, giving me an abundance of very uncomfortable silence, I'm the weird guy that doesn't talk. Though I do tend to be able to communicate with science and older people a lot easier than people within my age group. I have lived in the sticks(country) most of my life though.
So my shout out goes to everyone here, thank you for just being you! You are all very wonderful people!
Thanks for the...collective...compliment.
Glad you like this place, and welcome aboard.
If you spend more than a casual amount of time on certain subforums here (like this very PPR, the current events, and especially Love and Dating) you might NOT be so impressed with our decorum here. Lol!
But I don't wanna rain on your parade. Just giving you warning. It can get rather rough and tumble in some corners of this website.
I will check into it. I visited the LGBT section, I've read some in the politics. I have found disagreements but the conversations I have observed have been very civil. Hope I wasn't just jumping to conclusions, I tend to do that sometimes. That's why I check into a few very hot topics where people tend to get very heated but didn't see any of that. I will keep my eyes open though
thanks for the feedback!
Multiple issues for me:
1. Trouble staring people in the face. It feels odd and uncomfortable. My autism doctor suggested, "look between my eyebrows".
2. Great discomfort being near people.
3. Feel stupid/feel negative about breaking an etiquette of communication. Later, a voice may echo in my head, lecturing me, like, "WHY DIDN'T YOU SHUT-UP"?

I experience all of those issues also. I can be comfortable a little bit staring in someones eyes, it's odd how it works because it doesn't work long. all of a sudden it just becomes uncomfortable then I find myself so worried about where I can comfortably look that it actually causes me to loose focus on what the person is saying. Being near people, I don't feel comfortable even walking in a store to buy something or walking past people before I make it into the store. Driving down the road is just as uncomfortable when people get behind me or pull up beside me. I've never understood why though, it doesn't make any sense to me, I try to reason with myself but it never helps. Too many times I have felt stupid for continuing to talk, especially when I get the looks from someone that confirm I just sound weird to them, then no comment, no feed back for what I was saying.
It has all gotten very out of control with me because I just tried to make it and never had health insurance. I was just diagnosed 2-3 years ago. I always assumed I was just a little crazy and one day I will grow out of my crazy ways but that day never came. I had my quiet personality when around people, then my odd behavior when I'm not. My energetic outbursts, My pacing around with my mind running 100 miles an hour. I'm constantly talking to myself within my mind, like my thoughts are all spoken within my mind. I don't know what it's like to have a thought that I don't hear myself speak within my mind. I thought all people did that. It came down to a point that it actually made me cry because I thought I was crazy. The only thing I had to go off of was crazy people aren't aware that they are crazy. Then I decided to look up symptoms of autism, there were so many that applied top me, things I thought were just part of my personality were symptoms. I diagnosed myself about 1 week before my doctor diagnosed me. It was like something out of a movie. I was going to fill him in on my discovery, before I had the chance he had already gave me a screening. I knew it was a screening but was unsure for what. After I finished I told him then he looked very surprised and said "we were thinking the same thing". I've got a very long way to go, I'm so old now and I've been without help my whole life. It has lead me horrible conditions, I barely leave my house. So isolated, it's so lonely. It's really taken its tole on my entire life, my interests seem so dull without anyone to share them with. I used to prefer to be alone because of the discomfort, I wish I would have just gotten help when I was young. Avoiding it was the worst thing possible. I need to find a local meet up group, a good doctor and a councilor. I'm working towards it, maybe I can turn things around?
Yes I know. When thinking about the conditions of this world it gets sad. Like things will never get turned around. I'm against people working hard and earning their way to a high financial status, but at the same time, everything is done for power, greed and control over others, if people just understood we would be way better off helping eachother out, sadly I don't think that will ever happen. I have no idea how to build a system like that, but it's the cold truth. The free market is simply designed in a way to empower very few while the rest suffer. There is no way to get rid of curropt minded individuals, so sadly we are just stuck with this mess we call earth. I really hope there is something better to go to when we die, but that's just theoretical, no garuntee there either. The universe truly is amazing though. My best saying, we are a universe which evolved to a degree that it can observe and question itself. There is no telling what existence truly is nor how it came to be, it's truly magical itself.
