Are you familiar with the dialogue between the Athenians and the citizens of Melos?
The Athenians, at war with the Spartans, demanded of the inhabitants of the little island of Melos they surrender their Island to the Athenians, for strategic purposes.
The Cirizens of Melos didn't want to guve up control over their city and argued that it was unethical, unnecessary etc.
The Athenians argued purely in terms of war and strategy.
This dialogue is the origin of the phrase: "The strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must."
The Athenians besieged the city, then killed all men and sold women and children into slavery.
The lost against the Spartans, though.
Argueing for freedom of the press and rights of journalists - or human rights- is arguing from an ethical standpoint.
The US is an Empire at war with its rebelluous colonies in the middle east. It will do what it can, and they will suffer what they must.
Fun fact: when woodrow wilson spoke about free nations and self governance after ww1, the Asian countries got their hopes up and then it turned out Wilson was only speaking about Europe, not European colonies.
The first one to actually end colonianism on moral grounds was Lenin, shortly after the russian revolution. The chinese and vietnamese, still colonized by britain, france, germany and japan were so impressed by this, and so disappointed by the Americans, they each founded a communist party.
So .... The video is so cynical when it calls other nations the US's b***h. Of course they are. What's new?
