There's a lot of hostile tension between the right and the left in the US right now. It's even resulted in some violence and rioting.

Does anybody else feel that a second civil war might possibly one day break out in this country between the Conservative States and Liberal States? Just like the North and South? In this case the line might divide the North, South, and West.

As much as I am pissed off and disillussioned with my country I think that this would be a horrible thing. I mean just imagine how much of the country would have been destroyed and ripped apart during the first Civil War if we had bombs and airplanes back then? :(

No. I don't think we'll have a "second Civil War."

I wish I felt that way, but I have always felt that anything is possible. The Dotard and his cult of MAGAs seem hellbent on spreading the fires of hate, and so are many left-wingers. In my opinion they're both guilty of tearing this country apart right now.

The only people I know who are schmucks like that-----are those on the Internet. You get the lunatic fringe on such sites as 4chan (I'm not talking about WP).

In real life, people have lives. They have jobs (or they're on Benefits) They don't want to fight a war, based merely on political differences, that would destroy the country.

I imagine that was the case during every war, but it's ultimately the governments who decide for us. They will do and say anything to encourage us to hate and fight each other when it benefits them.

I decided a long time ago that I would never fight in somebody else's war. If somebody tried to force me to fight I would choose prison or even death. I'm simply badass like that. :wtg:

Parts of the country are already being ripped up in the name of a wall, various wildlife refuge areas and public land with important habitat is still under threat. So civil war or not, things are still being ripped up.

Agreed. The turmoil is very real. I'm even starting to see some of it for myself in both Florida and Georgia.

precisely what I was going to say.

People arguing and seeming divided on the internet is not the same as a society being divided. The vast, vast majority of people don't spent time arguing on the internet and are happy just getting on with their lives.

It's not just "on the internet". Haven't you been paying attention to the deadly riots in the last few years? Like they one in Charlottesville, Virginia over the removal if a Confederate monument? Or the angry protestors burning down buildings and looting when Trayvon Martin got shot and killed?

There really IS a lot of tension building up in this country that started even before the Dotard became president. This sort of thing happened in the 1960's during the Civil Rights movement aswell as during tje 1860's during the American Civil War.

I think history really is repeating itself.

I have very much been paying attention. Charlottesville was awful, but was a very small amount of people really. Most people have enough going on in their own life to be dealing with than get involved in these kinds of things

Every war always starts off as a small group of people pissed off about something. It's like one tiny little flame that eventually spreads over a whole forest.

We’ve had many “little flames”—and some pretty big ones—like the Detroit riots of 1967, where they had to call up the National Guard.

Read up on the various riots of the 60s.

If ever there was potential for a nationwide civil war, that was the time.

It didn’t happen.

What’s going on now is nothing compared to what was going on then.

I guess you're right, I wasn't alive in the 1960's. Lol

But am I the only one who finds it a weird coincidence that such a thing happened in both the 1860's and 1960's? History does seem to echo... Maybe what's going on now has the potential makings of another world war? Maybe by the 2030's we will have entered another Great Depression with this bad economy? :|
