Why do autistics support right wing policies?
Autism is characterized by having impaired social skills, but a tendency to dig into details regarding a lot complicated stuff.
In short, autistics are nerds/geeks.
I can't help but wonder how on Earth so many autistics here on WP support right wing policies like:
* Support for Trump
* Support for military conscription (or any other labor duty, jailing anyone unwilling to participate).
* Do not believe in man-made climate changes
+ more ridiculous policies I personally would attribute to Neurotypical politics.
First of all, if you have impaired social skills, military or any other labor duty is definitely not a thing for autistics. And even if it was - for some - they should understand that it wouldn't be for anyone, far from it.
Autistic support for Trump... well, Trump is anti-autism. He wants to eliminate medicaid and other social programmes a lot of autistics depend on.
And for the climate changes, most of those who know science and how science works, will also know the climate changes are caused by humans.
Your premise is wrong...
There are a lot of auties who have left-wing affinities...
Why shouldn't some embrace a more rational perspective?
It is not a crime to have a conservative bent even though you present it as such...
A very biased POV...
And what is this nonsense about supporting military conscription?
First I heard about it...
And how many auties deny that climate change isn't affected to some degree by human interference?
Where do you get this stuff?
Make a poll...<shrug>
This will get perceived as me trolling but isn't meant this way - simply I used to be a right winger in college.
I suspect it's a lot of Ayn Rand readers who believe in the virtue of selfishness. Not to be a bad person or selfish as in using others but perceiving oneself as who one is responsible for and everything else as an extension to that.
This would work for aspies in a truly merit based society but we've decided that 'merit' is a lot of NT type social skills, so those of us who aren't skilled in STEM and can't pass for NTs are treated as if we're useless.
And I have a soft science information science degree which would be useful to companies if they overlooked the autistic social skills and allowed me to work alone. As they don't allow that and nowhere else will hire me, I got ill and now I'm on disability.

I completely agree with the above. Almost same story as yours - I used to be a semi-libertarian, but I never supported conscription, actually it was the quite opposite that got me into libertarianism, because I hated anyone who supported conscription, and those who did support it back then - were socialists.
Now I'm a left wing liberal, mostly. At least, whenever left wing liberalism serves my interests.
Because the world is complicated and people have different theories about how it operates. People don't agree and being autistic does not mean you must conform to certain political views.
This post is ok as I viewed it as an honest question, but it is a close cousin of an attitude that reeks of liberal arrogance. The attitude that comes across as "I'm so smart and enlightened and anyone who disagrees is ignorant, bigoted, or evil." Some phrases that come to mind.
"Don't poor farmers know they're voting against their own self-interest"
"Trump supporters are just a basket of deplorables"
"Only gun nuts want guns"
"Anyone in favor of a border wall must be racist"
I'm not even right-wing. I voted for Gary Johnson in the last presidential election, and Mitt Romney the election before that. I'm hoping the democrats nominate someone I can get behind like Hickenlooper or Klobuchar, so that I don't have to vote third party again (I will never vote for Trump). However, I've lived my life surrounded by dogmatic liberals who attack me any time I express a view right of center.

I'm more centrist.
I look at it based on treatment of autistics by ideology. Right now, the left has a very trigger-happy policy. Say the wrong thing, and your reputation is destroyed, no matter who you are (doubly so it seems if you're male, sorry had to say it). And if you have Asperger's/ASD, you probably know how easy it is for us to get into such a situation. That's why I said in an earlier post why I think any Aspie/ASD should not have a social media presence AT ALL unless it is for a Youtube channel or a business. Conservatives are more forgiving in that aspect.
OTOH, liberals are more likely to fund programs for us, while current national Republicans/conservatives want to slash everything and programs supporting the disabled/disadvantaged is usually close to the front of the line. So it kind of balances out. Neither side is really that great at accommodating overall though because it's a hidden disability and so most people won't notice at first glance. At that point, it's a wash, so it comes down to what you, personally, feel is correct ideologically.

I don't get why anybody supports either one. After years of lies, scandals, empty promises, and pointless wars you'd think that Americans would have figured out by now that neither side has our best interest at heart.

I never got it either. I'm guessing these people simply don't know what's good for them.

Ding ding ding....we have a winner. Two sides of the same bad penny.

A lot of people that are pro-trump don't really agree with real right-wing ideas in general, they just consider themselves right wing because they don't like what they perceive as the left wing. Left and right ideologies overlap a lot more than their actual members because Americans are polarized, and this has slightly influenced some other western nations as well.
If the entire subject of someone's "argument" is against the "opposition", which can't even be fully defined, then it's probably best to go straight to the source and interpret it for yourself.

Or they don’t like someone else deciding what’s good for them even though they disagree then forcing it on them.
If something’s good it shouldn’t have to be forced on anyone.

I have trouble understanding why also...
My best guess is pragmatism...
Most people who are on welfare support left-wing politics because of the benefits...
Which is totally understandable...
Many autistics are "poor" or dependent on welfare, hence part of the reason for their left-wing affinities...
Autistics tend to be more rational than emotional compared to NTs...
If all autistics were financially stable, it is my belief that more autistics would embrace a more conservative/rational philosophical position...
Like I said, pragmatism...
