I think automatons should not be given voting rights.

Nor should automatons be allowed to run for or hold an elected office.

Getting appointed or hired into the bureaucracy might be okay, though.

Politicians are already basically automatons for the corpocracy.

Yeah, what's your argument against automatons in office? - I mean, politicians right now impose policies that come from expert advisors who run things through mathematical models... So... Basically, without being sarcastic, it's algorithms already anyway...

Quite the opposite. Most bureaucrats can be replaced with a button that, when pressed, plays a recording of a mechanical voice saying "Wrong window. Next, please!"

What about androids?

I think Data would make a good president.

Before or after the emo-chip?
Before, and he'd be confused about humans their emotions all the time.
After, and he'd be confused about himself and his emotions all the time.

Before.

Approaching political issues from a logical stance rather than an emotional one would be empowering.

But he'd likely be an awful diplomat.
And also: there's no particular logic behind humanism. We just believe we are important, because we're humans.
Logic would say, if there's algorithms that can simulate and replace human ingenuity, there's no need to feed all those ugly meatbags, largely filled with water.
The resources could be put to much better use.
So... Logic is great to find a way towards a goal. But I wouldn't totally trust logic to set the goal posts.
I know Data wouldn't starve all humans. But who tells Data what to aim for? Jean-luc? Will ryker? The koch brothers?

Technically, Soong programmed him with a set of ethics, so I suppose his values would be those of Soong.

I don’t think a president or any politician could be perfectly moral. Most decisions come at some sort of cost.
