Which do you guys prefer? I think us Americans will be screwed either way, but if we destroy ourselves in a second civil war then at least the rest of the world won't have to worry about World War 3. Of course that means China will take over the world though.

I think a second american civil war would kick off World War 3 anyways so I'll go with World War 3 with a united America. There's a chance we don't destroy the world and win. Not a very high one, but a chance.

I don't want us to win. Not if our country continues to go down this path of becoming a kakistocracy.

Neither's going to happen.

Some relatively high likelihood of civil unrest in the late 1960's sense but by the time you have that visible a problem a lot more people who are usually apathetic won't be and the thing will get put to rest in one way or another.

Our current spot is mostly an uncomfortable place for misfits, working class, and outside cultures. it doesn't get resolved because not enough of the people who 'matter' have been hit yet.

Years ago people thought that the recession was never going to get as bad as it is now. We're on the verge of a complete economic collapse thanks to the Dotard and his stupid trade wars.

We already know what will happen. The country will be torn to hell. No matter which side wins it will **** us over for a long, long time. It won't be like the first Civil War where we patch everything up with a big group hug afterwards. There will be bombed cities on our own soil, excessive civilian casualities, famine and starvation, and a strong sense of disillusionment among Americans that may never go away. Not to mention the fact that the US government itself will most likely win the war just like last time and with somebody like Trump in power he will take advantage of the disruption to somehow make himself "president for life" as he bragged about wanting to follow in the footsteps of China's communist leader.

But at least there's a good chance that we might avoid a third world war and the apocalypse if it happens.

I've no interest in starting anything with you, not least because it wouldn't exactly be a fair fight. This is why none of the times you imagine me starting s**t with you have I actually been starting any s**t, but have instead asked questions and illustrated faulty logic with analogies and, I hope, some measure of wit. You, in turn, have strained profusely to not say something that you know will get you in trouble with the mods, culminating in you calling me a "damned meatball" if I recall correctly (that was adorable, by the way). You appear to be hypervigilant and hypersensitive, and I'm wondering from where this apocalyptic outlook comes from, because it seems to be incongruent with reality, and I should hope that were I stuck in such an outlook, someone would attempt to reassure me of that.

Doubtful, a U.S. civil war would launch the world into chaos and have a chain reaction that very likely would start a third world war. There is historical precedent. In 1812 when the Napoleonic wars were being waged between France and the rest of Europe the U.S. decided with Britain's forces busy fighting France that they could invade Canada setting off the war of 1812. The world is so much more connected now than it was then.

Think about it. A U.S. civil war means that U.S. forces around the world would be recalled to America. Countries like China and Russia could expand militarilly without fear of a U.S. reprisal. Say China decides to conquer Taiwan while this is happening (a stated goal of the Chinese government), and Russia decides to annex more of Eastern Europe. Countries like Britain, France, Germany, Japan would probably get involved and we would soon have a world war on our hands.

Not to mention trade and economics would collapse as the world's largest economy was embroiled in a civil war, and countries would have to use war spending to stave off a depression.

So in other words while we're busy f*****g ourselves and the countries that we f****d are f*****g each other then we all get f****d? :chin:

yeah. that's pretty much what he is saying.

The US is more central to the world then during the first civil war. So if we actually decided to fight our civil war over again it would be very destabilizing to the world.

There’s really not much reason to fight that civil war, anyway. People just don’t want to mess with their routines that much.

People are pissed.....but they are usually not that stupid.

What kind of civil war? The armed forces are 97% right-wing so if it's the lefties vs the right then it will be put down quickly before it turns into a war.

The Russian Revolution succeeded only because military sided with the revolting peasants (the Imperial Russian Army felt spurned by mismanagement). The American left won't stand a chance unless the US armed forces decide they're being used by the right-wing elite. Perhaps they already know it but they realise it means more funding and more work for them.

In the very unlikely event the armed forces join the 99 percenters otherwise doomed revolt, it would almost be a bloodless coup. No man would dare face an army alone. This still wouldn't result in a civil war. a prolonged war requires both sides to be evenly matched (in capability, not in resources).

As Antrax points out, if there was a civil war, the US wouldn't be able to protect its interests abroad but in the aftermath of civil war, America would be more fortified than ever so at least they wouldn't need to fear foreign invasion.
