What are your thoughts on our first lady Margaery Tyrell errr I mean Melania Trump?

I think of her as "The Red Carnation of Slovenia" (her country's national flower symbol), being wed to "The American Bald Eagle" (Donald Trump).

Like a pretty flower, she seems harmless enough. But perhaps it's all a font?

I read this quote from wikipedia about the symbolism of Red Carnations in politics.

“Pretty flower,” not much substance, and not a great role model for young girls and women to aspire to.

I miss Michelle Obama.

I don't know enough about her to really have an opinion on her, to be honest.

Michelle Obama was a pretty good "role model." She had her own voice. She didn't try too hard to be "feminine."

Jacqueline Kennedy was a role model for a different generation of women. She adopted the soft voice and the overly-feminine attributes. But she did have a reputation as a hard taskmaster.

Melania definetly reminds me of Margaery from Game of Throne and her marriage to Joffrey (The Rose and The Lion).

Margaery came across as a pretty and kindly girl who was beloved by everybody, in contrast to her betrothed Joffrey who was an abusive narcissistic monster (much like Trump), and yet she had a weird control over him because she was equally ruthless and much of her "kindness" to the people was fake.

Reminds me of how Melania is always apologizing for her husband's actions, and yet we all know she tolerates being married to that beast which says more about her than it does him.

I think she puts up with him because it’s profitable for her to do so. It just appears very old-fashioned and regressive.

Of course, no one can fully understand a marriage except for the people in the marriage, but from the outside, it looks kind of “icky.” (I’ve been using that word a lot lately...)

i agree, and I bet their wedding went something like this.

It’s hard to walk down steps in high heels.

Her presence (or lack thereof) as a First Lady is a strange one. People talk about Trump so much that she’s given very little thought or attention.

She comes off as an attractive accessory that’s quickly and easily forgotten.

Much like a flower that is disgarded as it wilts.

Buuut even pretty flowers have their own strengths. They endure the elements and they learn to adabt to their environments, because they don't choose where they grow. And they just keep growing and spreading until they engulf everything in site. They are true survivors!



I love symbolism

OK enough with the symbolism.

As far as being a person, she doesn't seem at all as bad as her husband. And I think she has a soft spot for children and I admire her for trying to keep her son out of the public eye. To me that says she's at least a good mother who cares about her son's needs over her duty to the people as the First Lady.

That's the typical Model-RichMan marriage.

I actually agree with you for once. There isn't anything wrong with a woman choosing to be feminine if she wants to be. Femininity does not automatically equal weakness.

Agreed, and as for Melania I get the feeling she isnt anywhere as bad as her husband. She even said in interviews that she doesn't approve of her husband's nasty twitter posts or the way that he has treated the children of illegal immigrants by seperating them from their families and putting them in detention centers but in the end "he's going to do exactly what he wants to do".

So I guess she's basically a doormat.
