(clicky)leading civil rights attorney details 20 ways trumpy copies from hitler's fascist playbook
Here are 20 serious points of comparison between the early Hitler and Trump [summary, article has details]-
1]-Neither was elected by a majority.
2]-Both found direct communication channels to their base.
3]-Both blame others and divide on racial lines.
4]-Both relentlessly demonize opponents.
5]-They unceasingly attack objective truth.
6]-They relentlessly attack mainstream media.
7]-Their attacks on truth include science.
8]-Their lies blur reality—and supporters spread them.
9]-Both orchestrated mass rallies to show status.
10]-They embrace extreme nationalism.
11]-Both made closing borders a centerpiece.
12]-They embraced mass detention and deportations.
13]-Both used borders to protect selected industries.
14]-They cemented their rule by enriching elites.
15]-Both rejected international norms.
16]-They attack domestic democratic processes.
17]-Both attack the judiciary and rule of law.
18]-Both glorify the military and demand loyalty oaths.
19]-They proclaim unchecked power.
20]-Both relegate women to subordinate roles.

He seeks to be a dictator.

Even if he wanted to go the Hitlerian route, our country and people wouldn’t allow it.

at this point, it is just about too late, there is a critical mass of crypto-fascists coming out of the woodwork and feeling their oats. not enough people of good will in positions of power - "The best lack all conviction, while the worst... Are full of passionate intensity." [Yeats] 2020 will tell. i am not optimistic.

There might be lots of as*holes in this country.

Ultimately, though, they value their freedom.

Only a few people want a dictatorship here. Certainly not the military.

a major portion of 62+ million people [who were paying attention at all] knowingly voted for a tyrant. knowingly.

Look, the problem is saying Hitler did it doesn't mean it's bad. And some aren't even true.

Out of these:

1. It's not Trump's fault that the system works that way.
2. I should be annoyed because he uses Twitter?
3. I don't think the latter part is true, and there's no shortage of people who are legitimately to blame for things.
6. He has legitimate grievances.
9. I don't think this is a bad thing in and of itself, though I do have reservations about it.
10. This is untrue.
11. Not a problem. It should be a centrepiece when millions of illegal immigrants infest the country and continue to pour over the border.
12. See 11. Even Obama did mass deportations.
14. This is disingenuous when the tax cuts were for everyone and the economy has experienced constant growth under Trump.
15. Not a problem in and of itself.
18. This is an American culture thing not a Trump thing.
19. If this is about him musing about going beyond a second term, I do think there shouldn't be a term limit. I don't see the benefit. I don't know if he'd have run, but surely democrats would have liked it if Obama could have run against Trump. If you had a great leader, it seems ret*d that you could only have that leader 8 years, then have to have one of these clowns instead. Also, the people still get to decide. If they don't want 3 term presidents, they won't vote for one.
20. This doesn't even make sense. Everyone is his subordinate. And if it means not in important positions, I'm pretty sure I've seen a female campaign manager and female White House spokeswoman off the top of my head.

13, I don't know what it refers to.

Your choice. In truth, I'm not keen to have the discussion either, long time commitment. I was tempted to just respond to your post with a "yes" and be done with it. Or to just give the numbers.

east is east, west is west, never the twain shall meet. your reality where the trumpy tax giveaway to the wealthy actually trickled down to you means you are upper middle class, and of course you are not gonna be able to see things from the working class pov.

Well I'm not American, so the Trump tax cut doesn't effect me at all. :)

What I do know is it's not just about taxes, it helped create jobs. A lot of jobs. How did that not benefit the working class? Don't be blinded by jealousy of the rich getting richer if it's helping the non-rich as well.

Clamping down on illegal immigration helps make sure it's American citizens filling those job vacancies as well.
