Greta Thunberg the teenage Climate Puppet has gone full Marxist.

In her latest public statement, she says that the ‘climate crisis is not just about the environment’:

It is a crisis of human rights, of justice, and of political will. Colonial, racist, and patriarchal systems of oppression have created and fueled it. We need to dismantle them all. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/12/01/ ... l-marxist/

Sadly obvious from the beginning.

Not sure what your point is, as drastic action is needed to solve the crisis, even if a brand new political system is needed - not one of the failed ones from the past but a brand new one where we're united towards the common goal of being a more compassionate society. Saving the planet for future generations needs fearless and radical change. It's started but needs more momentum.

Our friend Darmok doesn't appear to accept the reality of climate change or any need to move away from fossil fuels etc. All the old folk I talk to have noticed the gradual climate changes.

Old farts are free to pretend it isn't occurring, they'll be dead before it impacts them.

I think his point is that Greta is showing her true colours.
Well, more correctly, other people's true colours.
I agree with some of the commentators that Greta is a tool of the political left who openly state that "It was never about climate change, it was about social change."
And as a result, Greta has lost her MVP status in grand social politics. <shrug>

I have always, and I mean always, seen this Greta Thunberg phenomenon a joke and have seen it as the cynical exploitation by left-wing elements of a vulnerable, emotionally disturbed girl.

Apparently, her father is profoundly involved in left-wing politics.
I wonder where Greta got her ideas from? <ponder>

Too right! :thumright:

But hang on.
You mean the old farts who don't have any skin in the game, like me, don't you?
Other old farts have their children and grand children to consider.
I am sure they would rather their offspring have a better future than themselves, right?
Isn't that the way parenthood is supposed to work?

And her mother.

And her grandfather.

It is hard to accept the integrity and credibility of a group of people who consistently peddle nonsense predictions which never eventuate.

Don't get me wrong,
Firstly, I believe in climate change since "Climate Change" has always happened and is always happening.
Secondly, I find it hard (impossible) to believe humanity isn't influencing the environment to some degree.
The problem for many people is that they don't like being treated like mugs to service someone else's political agenda.

"Useful Idiots":
Quote:
n political jargon, a useful idiot is a derogatory term for a person perceived as propagandizing for a cause without fully comprehending the cause's goals, and who is cynically used by the cause's leaders.[1][2] The term was originally used during the Cold War to describe non-communists regarded as susceptible to communist propaganda and manipulation.[1] The term has often been attributed to Vladimir Lenin,[3] but this attribution is unsubstantiated https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Useful_idiot

And thirdly:
Catastrophizing about a no return point causing an extinction event simply doesn't "Cut the Mustard" with more informed individuals.
We are in an "Ice Age" at the moment and the earth's climate does alternates between warmer and kooler conditions.
My understanding is that the amount of polar ice that we have atm is not typical.
I.E. The earth "normally" doesn't have as much ice as it has now.
Please take this statement in context.

If there is a problem with environmental compliance determined by some groups, could it have something to do the absolute BS that people have been fed for many years?
May I suggest that Chicken Little goes to the Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages and legally change his/her name in addition to grabbing a pair of "Groucho Marx" glasses with attached big nose, eyebrows and moustache?
I think we have seen enough of that turkey, err, I mean chicken.

I know, right?
Always this worrying about those 3rd world countries and their dependency on glaciers feeding rivers. Worry about yourself, first! How's my trust fund performing?...
Screw those poor people, they shouldn't have built their country where my exhaust affects them!

Next thing's they are going to try wander north, because their farmland won't be arable, and they don't want to build irrigation systems.
Build that wall, now. I'm going to invest in some concrete. I have a feeling the construction sector is going to perform well this decade.
A wall like the sea wall that Exxon is having the texan state pay to build around their refineries, against rising sea levels and hurricanes.
I'm so glad I have Exxon in my portfolio, they're performing so well, even with those ghastly government regulations!
Ugh, just the thought of it! Someone bring me some diazepam and champagne, I thought of environmental regulations again!

...
because "the earth isn't supposed to have this much polar ice" is already a statement veering into the wildly surreal.

It's interesting the similarities of the fall of Rome and what's happening today,in regards to moral decay of society and climate change.

But hey,that's evolution for ya!

Reminds me of 2 quotes ie : "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" & "“Most men would rather deny a hard truth than face it.”

Such is life.
