Another interesting article...
What if instead of a civil war, America is actually headed for something more along the lines of what happened during the French Revolution? Which would be horrifying too...

The trump-anti-establishment guys and the bernie-anti-rich guys do have the largely the same issues and the same enemies, but tell each other vastly different stories.
Much like the fascists and communists after ww1.
Except, Bernie is no commie, while the white supremacist nationalists... Well, they scare me much more than the European wellfare-state Bernie is advocating for.
But hey... The french Revolution and its aftermath took only until 1945 to get sorted out ...

Nah. A green new deal isn't exactly a Bolshevik revolution, nor is it a Jacobin one.
But the author of the article is comparing the trump guys to the french revolutionaries... That's just a bad comparison.

I doubt it will come to this and I'll tell you why: a small news network called OANN is interviewing and investigating Ukraine. They are broadcasting the investigations in installments and releasing it to the public. It is my humble opinion only that Trump will not be impeached. Without impeachment, there will not be anything resembling a civil war. Unfortunately for the Democrats, the way they've gone about this: threatening impeachment since the election of 2016, has caused those who voted for Trump to consider this a coup. Whether it is, or isn't is not my point. My point is only that among the more radical supporters of Trump, it is viewed as one. THAT is what would cause a Civil War, Revolution, whatever...
And although they would never admit they are worried about it, you can bet that is being discussed in Washington. It would take a lot for anyone in my family to ever feel the need to use a weapon. But, we have got people in this country who have been waiting for this their whole lives. People who believe that THIS situation is why we fought for the right to bear arms all along... The average American would never know who they were. They don't wear a sign, they don't scream on sidewalks, they don't march on Washington. They are relatively silent, but the government knows they exist somewhere.
All that being said, I still don't believe it will come to that. What I do believe is that when it doesn't, there will be a whole heap of Red Necks who will be sorely disappointed. And contrary to popular belief Red Necks aren't a strictly Southern phenomenon. There are some really backward people in upstate New York, Maine, etc... They just aren't the ones the media interviews or focuses on.

That is true, rednecks aren't just confined to the south. They live all over the country, especially in rural areas. Even the state of New York has rural areas outside New York City.
But yeah, if violence did break out over Trump it would be scary. ![]()

That was actually the aftermath of a much earlier matter.

Basically the cores of France and Germany/Austria have been fairly consistent. It's that middle section that includes the BeNeLux countries, Switzerland, northern Italy, Alsace and Lorraine, Burgundy, etc that's been fought over for the past 1100 years.

Just a reminder: under international law, an occupying power has no right of self-defense, and those who are occupied have the right and duty to liberate themselves by any means possible.

Rural Ontario is part of Redneckistan.

Fair point, but these issues were fought over by kings - and the people there identified as from whatever region they originated from.
The french Revolution and republicanism brought the nation state and democracy into the game - new concepts to identify with.
I mean, there wasn't a "Germany" until the mid of 19th century, and then it became a matter of national identity, rather than mere soverignity over a certain region.
But yeah, one could also easily draw a line around these issues much wider and include the 30-year war....
Anyway... So... Historical matters never really begin or end like nice, self-contained stories...
As Slovoj Zizek says: somehow, the future is fixed - whatever will happen, will happen. The past is open to reinterpretation and change.
