Holocaust archaeology: uncovering vital evidence to prove the deniers wrong

I have visited Auschwitz a couple times. It is fairly well preserved.

After the bodies were cremated the human ashes were collected and buried. Later when it became clear that Germany was loosing the war, those ashes were dug up and feed into the rivers, so that little or no evidence of the crime could be left.

I had a book that was rather unusual. I wish I remembered where I put it. It contained a partial record of the events from the eyes of Sonderkommando. Sonderkommandos were work units made up of German Nazi death camp prisoners. They were composed of prisoners, usually Jews, who were forced, on threat of their own deaths, to aid with the disposal of gas chamber victims during the Holocaust. They knew that they would not survive because they were routinely rounded up and exterminated.

These individuals went through great lengths to record their experiences. Normally this was done on scrolls. The scrolls were surrounded by a hand made metal container and many were buried with the ashes of the victims.

After the war, several of these records were found. Many were in poor condition. The book I had was a record of these preserved texts.

I don't think you need to prove to any Holocaust denier wrong. Just have them visit Auschwitz.

Grim and depressing a task as it is it is necessary to do what we can to preserve places like the death camps to maintain the memory of what happened.

There are some people that "proof" will persuade but there are some(IMHO the vast majority) of Holocaust deniers that any and all proof will be viewed as further evidence of the evil world Jewry conspiracy. There are people that have a psychological need to believe all problems are the result of nefarious conspiracies. While all groups will have people believing that they are part of some bad conspiracy for reasons I do not fully understand Jews fulfill this need and fulfill this need for more people, more intensely, and more consistently than for most other groups.
