What other reason could there be?

Trump Administration Wants to Send Every Worker a Check

Quote:
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said Tuesday he is working on a “very significant economic stimulus plan” to present to Senate Republicans ... He said the plan will involve sending a check to every American worker within two weeks rather than implementing a payroll tax holiday ...
I can see it now ...

"I gave everyone a thousand bucks! A yuge amount! They're so grateful, they're all gonna vote for me, bigly!"

 Really, Mr. trump?

What a genius. I'm going to donate it right back to his campaign fund.

Some, maybe a lot, of countries are doing it.
Scott Morrison, the Australian PM is doing it, and the former Labor Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd famously did it.

I gather you don't like Trump.
Selective criticism, perhaps? 8O

This is nothing new, giving money to the constituents.
The intention is to get people to put that money into the economy.
Personally, I am not sold on the idea.

Quote:
Scott Morrison paved the way for some cash handouts to pensioners and others on welfare to try to shore up growth quickly. He reminded a news conference the Coalition had supported the first round of the Rudd government’s stimulus (which centred on cash payments for households). “We need to address the demand side and supply side,” he said.

Speaking on Sky on Wednesday night, he pointed to something for pensioners, saying they in particular but also many in similar circumstances would spend any extra money. https://theconversation.com/big-stimulu ... ses-133452

He already bought votes, that's all campaign funding is about anyway. He's trying to buy his way out of culpability for firing the white house pandemic response team.

A family of 4 could get $18,000 this year under a cash bill by Senate Democrats

Singles could get as much as $4,500 per person.

It might not benefit him. The government can't pay an income to everyone in America for months and months on end. Even if a check is paid this month and next month tops, the economy could tank to a degree that we've never seen before. If people are standing in soup lines in 6-9 months, "Remember those two checks I gave you 6-9 months ago?" won't count for much if anything.

I don't think it was even his idea.

As far as I know Mitt Romney suggested it before Trump did, not sure he was the first either though.

I will believe it when I see it but WOO HOO! nonetheless. I was daydreaming over getting a mere $1000.

I understand that 45% of workers will be excluded.

If Donald Trump pays me $18,000 dollars then I personally pledge to never vote for Joe Biden.

If a single person has an income of $99,000 per year or above, that person gets nothing under the proposal.

A sliding scale of less money starts at $75,000 per year for a single person.

What do they mean by “income”? Taxable income, or Adjusted Gross Income? I suspect the latter.
