Could we potentially be in just an entertainment medium?

We are not the sorts of entertainment that currently exist in our society.

We could be a very advanced simulation. There's an argument that we probably are a simulation, because there are probably infinitely more such simulations than actual realities.

We could be a dream. If so, I feel sorry for that dreamer.

Ultimately there's no way of telling and it doesn't change anything.

I’m an empiricist.

We are not living someone else’s dream.

I couldn't finish The Truman Show movie. As an undiagnosed autistic person, with no clue why I felt like an outlier, the themes were so visceral to me it was like a horror film. If you're asking about life as a fictitious simulation that really scares me. Total mind-fk.

Probably not, but if we are then I have a few chosen words for whoever made us up, for this creation here is not satisfied with her design.

There would be no way of knowing if what we perceive as the real world around is indeed real, or just a very clever simulation being imposed directly on our brains in a laboratory somewhere.

Personally, I'll go with the simplest explanation: Reality sucks.

^ Yep, anything other than accepting that the world we live in is real requires assuming, without evidence, the existence of additional entities/realities.

^ I've seen his razor being used to great effectiveness many, many times.

There’s a razor belonging to Ockham
Whose logic had no room for hokum
His rules of deduction
Relied on reduction
The Pope was determined to choke him!

^ Back then, the Papacy was against Free Thought, not just Science, and William was one of the freest thinkers in the Franciscan order.

Absolutely!

We all are just characters in a game of Farmville. Being played by some lady with a laptop in another reality.

And that lady who is playing with us on her laptop in this other reality is herself a character in an simulated universe in a game of Farmville being played by another person on their laptop in a still other reality.

And this third person is themselves a character in another game of Farmville, being played with by....

Of course! Franciscans!
Dodgy reprobates with their keeping the vow of poverty, preaching to peasants in words they can understand, reading texts by Pagan, Jewish and Muslim authors and observing the world around them.
Let the purges commence.

"I think therefore I am"

Also, no one would want to read about me.

Yes. If we are characters were all rather boring.

On top of that this media production we are in is badly edited. Martin Scorsese once said "thats whats wrong with real life. There are no dissolves. No cuts. You just have to live through every damned moment!" No audience would stand for this stuff.
