Theory 1
The backlash against the 60s counterculture led us to Nixon's election, landslide reelection, and after a Watergate break Reagan, and arguably Trump. The progressives get big crowds for the gun control, climate change marches and this. Whoopee do, the anti Vietnam War protests got huge crowds and there were a lot of riots also, how did that go? People will again get the impression the progressives are crazy and too radical, history will repeat itself.

Theory 2
This is 2020 not 1970. The country is more diverse, police brutality is instantly on social media. Trump's election was an anomaly, the 2018 midterm the blue wave is more indicative of the long term generational change. Floyd's murder is the tipping point that will finally get young people and minorities out to vote as much if not more than the older people. Biden wins handily, Democrats get control of the Senate and ok boomer thinking goes to the dustbin of history.

Theory 3
Trump's outrageous twitterstorms, the resistance, Russia gate, impeachment, Pandemic, the worst economy since the great depression and Trump's approval remains steady, so what's a bunch of riots going to change? It's going to come down to the same 50,000 votes or so in the same swing states.

I think it will be a Biden landslide, assuming no foreign influence or voter suppression.

Trump is being partially blamed for this.

Aye, there's the rub!  If Trump had his way, there would be not mail-in votes.  There would also be a lot of MAGA-hat wearing bullies, thugs, an militia members hanging around the polling places to intimidate anyone who did not look 'American' enough.

I believe what happens in the “swing states” will decide the election.

Trump losing Florida would be a disaster for him.

Isn’t Trump a FL resident now?

He’s the President. He officially lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, I believe.

He BARELY won Florida in 2016.

If he gets Hispanics pissed off, he is TOAST in Florida.

Belief is irrelevant in light of the facts.  Donald Trump's official Permanent Residence is in Mar-A-Lago, Florida.  He just (allegedly) works at the White House.

They still remember his campaign rhetoric (the "rapists" remark) and the detention center crisis. Plus the El Paso shooter targeted them specifically, and some of the "s**thole countries" Trump mentioned were in Central America.

i sure am glad my state is mail-in voting only, otherwise i'd punch one of those red-hat-wearing fascist election interferers in his stoooopid nose if he tried anything with me, and end up going to my grave or at least jail.

I know it's a cop-out but I think we have to wait before judging the impact of any one part of the news cycle. I'm leaning strongly towards option 3 in the mean time.

Each day the riots and terrorism continue, 100,000 new Trump voters are created.

There will be a substantial shift toward Trump in the black community.

The clashes are likely to further divide people and draw conservatists more conservative, progressivists more progressive, with barren demilitarized zone in-between.
Option 1 if they get more violent, option 3 if they get more civil.

...What if reaction to the riots and an improvement in the COVID and economy situations gets Trump's base fervently behind him in the white Trumpian states - while Biden gets narrow enough victories in enough blue states - to get a Popular win for Trump and Electoral win for Biden, exactly. reversing 2016 8O  ?

The EC rules the roost, so it would be Biden.

As I understand it:
The protesters are predominantly on the "left" of the political spectrum
The (violent) protesters are committing "felony" level crimes
Convicted felons are not eligible to vote.

Maybe it's all a secret plan to lower the number of potential Democrat voters in the upcoming election?
