Yeah, I remember that statement from the 2016 campaign. Lately, I had been getting kinda tired and skeptical of these reports from anonymous sources, but what they reported Trump as saying about people in the military who were captured or killed does match what I remember him saying about John McCain during the 2016 campaign, when he said he liked people who didn't get caught. It seems like he thought that having been a POW (prisoner of war) was a flaw. I can't see many military people being happy with this.

It kinda reminds me of this scene from Final Fantasy VI. The Empire is laying siege to a castle, and Kefka (the villain) is about to poison the castle's water supply to kill everyone. One of his soldiers objects because it would also kill their own men who have been taken as prisoner of war in the castle, but Kefka says he doesn't care because "they were the ones stupid enough to get caught by the enemy":

Whether it was said in private or not is immaterial. The very fact that a President would express such contempt of men who died in battle fighting for the US is a problem. There is no way that any such person should ever be a President. That so many self-identified conservatives (I don't see how any actual conservative could ever support a radical like Trump) think it is okay is beyond belief.

Very good point. That's why I have more contempt for the political establishment than I do Trump. He's just a symptom, not the disease. If it weren't for them, we wouldn't have Trump in office.
