At times, rightwing activists discuss acts of violence at recent, contentious protests, which in some cases they were recorded carrying out. At one point, David Willis, a felon currently being sued for his alleged role in an earlier episode of political violence, joins a discussion about the use of paintballs.

Where other members had previously suggested freezing the paintballs for maximum damage, Willis wrote: “They make glass breaker balls that are rubber coated metal. They also have pepper balls but they are about 3 dollars a ball. Don’t freeze paintballs it makes them wildly inaccurate” [sic.]

Willis did not immediately respond to voice and text messages sent to his listed cellphone number.

I don't know if you guys watched the documentary on Cambridge Analytica, the company started by then President Elect Donald Trump self taught political and military strategist (not to mention, hedge fund entrepreneur and far right media mogul) Steve Bannon.

This documentary gave a glimpse of what President Trumps supporters are capable of, using social media, hacking, individually targeted tailor made marketing / manipulative propaganda campaigns that was designed to turn all voters on the fence to vote trump.

The people of this company were doing all sorts of experiments in social engineering, including starting lefty movements that they used to manipulate the followers into creating events that could then be used to serve their own political means.

Very sophisticated manipulation that created results that they twisted to their favour, that's the nature of such manipulative sociopaths, what ever the outcome, they will make out they won or were right, no matter what the evidence was (as they haven't lost until they are dead in their own eyes).

What these people have got involved in definitely broke the international and national laws, but due to the illegal nature of their operations (such as hacking, cyber stalking, data mining, which they used in order to collect intel, which they analysed to identify their targets), the employee's of the operation were likely sworn to secrecy.

Cambridge Analytica did eventually get shutdown by the UK government. No one was arrested, no one went to prison.
What this company got up to likely involved what you mention.

But who are the puppets and who is the puppet master?...

Not yet, we could still elect Biden and maybe we can come back from this...at least it is what I am hoping for. Though I don't think simply getting Biden elected will stop the social unrest, but at least then maybe it can be addressed with something other than police brutality.
