Krystal Ball completely destroys Maher's attempt at voter shaming.

We've seen this mindset from Biden.

Never mind his policies, if you're not voting for him, then ....

It's called "punching down" at the people who have no power, rather than "punching up" at the people responsible for creating this mess.

We all know who is responsible - it’s Donald Trump, the people who enable him, and the people who refuse to vote against them.

Ball is either stupid or, more likely, typical of the grifter pundits on TV news. There’s no substance to any of her arguments. She goes after “forty years of neoliberalism”, conveniently lumping together a huge range of politicians in a manner that only makes sense if she is politically illiterate or more likely if she is seeking to mislead people in order to further her career. Furthermore, this ill-defined “neoliberalism” is presented as a bad thing, even though Presidents Reagan, Bush Senior, B. Clinton and Obama are generally regarded as amongst the best, and certainly each has a laundry list of achievements to his name. Then the country had the greatest presidential candidate since Eisenhower sat right in front of them and what, they decided to vote for a self-serving idiot because too many things had gone well for them lately?

Ball is ample proof, if any were needed, that there are just as many charlatans on the left as on the right. It is to Ball’s credit that she doesn’t stoop to the levels of Joe Rogan or Ben Shapiro, but that’s a low bar. To be fair, Bill Maher is hardly known as an intellectual, so you don’t usually need to be particularly rigorous to prove him wrong, but Ball hasn’t even reached that standard - Maher comfortably wins this one. Yes, the people who chosen not to vote for Clinton have to share moral culpability for Trump’s actions. It was apparent what sort of president he would be and they let him be it. They cannot refuse themselves by saying they were upset that Obama was president, or that Hillary called them out on their s**t.

You can either keep pretending we're in this rhetorical death spiral because A: one vulgar golf enthusiast is actually more adept & cultured than literally millions of alternatives & it's our fault for not accepting it or B: one vulgar golf enthusiast simply dragged the rhetoric down to this level.

How about we just talk numbers like good little capitalists instead of all this defamatory crap everyone loves to keep slinging?

It's only a discussion of two candidates as usual, even though people are asserting that Trump knocked that corrupt duopoly over.

In reality both parties still exist, although a chauvinistic, broke casino developer is claiming to be the cure-all for a problem which all indications suggest he's the kingpin of. Apparently it's legal to release one's tax returns under audit, if they even really are, but I trust the NYT a bit farther than the fakest New Yorker to ever live.

I don't even care about the election as much as I care about the country burning to the ground, but according to the Trump party line you would let them burn, or so multiple users here are suggesting.

Why are you supporting Trump?

You know full well that Trump is worse than the "establishment". You know full well that the election could be close. You know full well that throwing away your vote on anyone other than Biden is a defacto vote for Trump, and that abstaining from voting at all is also a defacto vote for Trump. So in practical effect you are supporting Trump. This election we dont have the luxury of voting for fringe candidates.

Yes...Trump is a symptom. A symptom of a failure by both parties (by "the establishment" if you wanna call it that). But Trump is also a lethal disease unto himself. An even worse disease than "the establishment".

If the Dems had nominated a GOP rightwinger like Ted Cruz I would support him over Trump. If the Dems had nominated a 100 pound sack of fertilizer with a happy face painted on it, I would support that as POTUS over Trump.

If your dream progressive candidate (Sanders, or AOC, or whomever that might be) were to act half as corruptly as Trump I would hope that you would demand his/her impeachment.

That because Cruz, and the bag of fertilizer, would both have greater respect for the Constitution, for democracy, and the rule of law, as well as greater respect for our allies,than Trump, and not be a toady to Russia, the way Trump is.
