Polarization vs something simple like an apple

An apple is presented to a group of 10 people. Four of the people in the room say the apple is a symbol of white supremacy and neo-Nazism. Another four people in the room say the apple is a symbol of stunning and brave diversity. The last two people in the room are like "What the f*** are these people talking about? These people are crazy. It's just an apple! JUST EAT IT!"

Some take knowledge to be evil.

Some take knowledge to be good...

Apples are the symbol of the Beatles, and of the record label they started.

Of a company that makes computers, and phones.

Of temptation. The story of Genesis never calls the fruit an "apple", but folks commonly assume it was an apple. Eating an apple is what got us all into this mess (mortality, suffering, etc).

Of education (because of the old meme about giving an "apple to the teacher").

Two centuries ago they were a symbol of vice because the main use of apples back then was to make hard cider- the main alcoholic beverage of early America.

Today they symbolize health, and clean living...because around 1900 apples got remarketed as a snack food with the slogan "an apple a day keeps the doctor away".

Two dental surgeons have warned me "that 'an apple a day may keep the doctor away, but keeps the dentist coming' because ripping into apples messes up your teeth". So now I hafta slice them up before I eat them.

And...the apple doesnt fall far from the tree.

Sounds like you're riffing on the old joke about: the four scholars who were given the task of a writing book about the subject of elephants.

A German, a Frenchman, an American, and a Jew.

The German produced an exhaustive, think heavy volume entitled "the definitive study of the elephant".

The Frenchman produced a more slender, but elegant, pamphlet sized book entitled "the Love Life of the Elephant".

The American published "Raising Elephants in Your Own Backyard, for Fun and Profit!"

And the Jew authored "the Elephant, and Antisemitism".
