Just another polemic for "defunding the police". Yeah it does often mean abolishing the police or taking the first steps towered that end.

Put these in the hands of mental health professionals, how much different would that be? Like mental health professionals don't kill, torture people by restraining them, like mental health professionals don't jail, ahem institutionalize people. Mental health professionals may not pepper spray people, they just use chemicals in a different way, it is called overprescribing drugs.

I am pretty confident mental health professionals will often come into situations with the same stereotypes mentioned in the video.

What happened before the cops came? Was she destroying the house? If not, then maybe the cops shouldn’t have been called. Maybe there should be mental health professionals taking the place of cops in this situation. Cops, maybe through no fault of their own, might have escalated the situation by their very presence.

No matter what, the girl shouldn’t have been pepper sprayed. I’m not even sure she should have been handcuffed.

According to the Polish-language newspaper where I read it, the intervention was because the girl had sucicidal ideations and violent fantasies.
Wow. Some things just don't fit in my head that they happen. :wall:

That still doesn’t give the cops the right to react that way.

Ahem... reacting that way to suicidal ideations of a child?
That's pure sickness!
America, you've got a deeply rooted problem.
We argue weather to say "coloured" or "of color" while people who really need help get handcuffs, kicks and pepper spray.

This is beyond disturbing and completely wrong in every way!

I agree completely with the reporter. Trained Mental Health Professionals ONLY should be assisting children and adults in their time of need such as this! What occurred was criminal and wholly damaging to that little girl. That child now has every right to mistrust those who she should be able to rely on to keep her and those around her safe. The way that black children and adults are treated as mentioned(ie. they are thought to need less nurturing, less empathy, less love, they are wrongly thought of as more mature and adult-like from the age of 4/5yrs!), the history of this type of thing from horrific abuse of the child in distress to murder(I used to cover the autism news), has been long overdue in need of correcting.

Rochester is meant to already have appropriate responders for these instances in place, but they don’t choose to utilise them. There needs to be immediate change, in fact, there should have been long ago. These Police Officers telling the little girl “stop acting like a child” ... and her response “But, I am a child” ... They failed miserably not only as Police Officers, but as Human Beings as far as I’m concerned.

American police officers really like digging their hole deeper and deeper, don't they? No, I don't think the police should be de-funded, but I also think there needs to be some kind of review, and restructuring if necessary, of all the State police forces to ensure that things like this never happen again.

These police officers need to be more severely reprimanded or removed
from their positions as enforcers of the law!

at this point, amuuurica is in a death spiral due to its own original sins, it needs an external force now to bang our heads together to get us to see reason. we can't do it ourselves anymore, indeed if we ever could.
