Atlanta MLB vs Beijing Olympics
Not that I care about baseball or the olympics either way (never been a sports fan).
But it really bothers me as someone who lives in Georgia when they pulled the Major League Baseball game out of Atlanta over the voter suppression laws signed by Brian Kemp and yet the US government is choosing not to boycott the Winter Olympics that will be hosted in Beijing where the Chinese government is committing ethnic cleansing against the Uigher population.
I can't be the only one who sees the hypocrisy in that?

To be blunt, Georgia got boycott because Georgia is more economically and geopolitically expendable. I don't mean that as an insult. Just a fact.
Boycotting the Beijing Olympics would have caused an international furor. And cost the US a chance to participate in the medal-winning d***-measuring contest that is the Olympics. It would also mean US athletes wouldnt get the opportunity to beat PRC athletes on their own turf--something China hawks on both sides of the aisle would not allow.
Also, the Uighurs are just Muslims. Why would US politicians be willing to pass up the chance at athletic prestige just to act like they care about Muslims? If it were Tibetans, that would be a different story, since they don't follow a religion that much of the US equates with terrorism.

You're correct about Georgia being one of the states nobody really gives a s**t about if it suffers economically. It's ironic to me how the government claims that they pulled the MLB game out of Atlanta to stand up against racism in southern politics and yet even Stacey Abrams herself begged the Democrats not to do this because it would hurt the black communities here in Georgia even more. It's not like the rich white Republicans in power passing these voter suppression laws will give a damn either way.

But as for Tibetans being a "different story"? I'm not sure I believe that either. Frankly it's always about the money when it comes to The US and United Nations tolerating China's human rights violations and I dont believe the US would stick its neck out to help Tibet either if it means upsetting China enough to hurt their corporate interests.
It's like I've said many times, Americans worship money. They can talk a big game all they want but that's the reason why they are never going to do s**t to protest China's corruption.
The whole global system is corrupt.

BS. Not hypocrisy. Peaches to pears.
Voter suppression in Georgia threatens democracy throughout the US. So an American institution boycotting the state is an act of self defense.
China oppressing the Uighurs is not a direct threat to Americans. So a US institution leading a crusade about it is not an act of self defense. It may well be the right thing to do, but its not quite the same thing because its aggressively meddling in another country, and its not self defense.
The Muslim world is FAR more hypocrital about the Uighur issue than is any Western country.

Yeah you're right, Democrats ruining Georgia's tourist industry during one of the biggest economic crisis that the US has faced since the Great Depression has been a highly effective way of keeping voter suppression laws from spreading around the country.
...Oh wait

And the Democrats worked so hard to flip Georgia blue this year. But I have a feeling it's going to revert back to red once our voters realize that the Democrats are to blame for our economy sinking during this crisis.
Stacey Abrams knew what she was warning about. Mark my words on this.

What was she warning about? I follow her on Twitter but then I never actually go on Twitter.

I think listening to her should be considered good policy for any Democrat.

And the thing is Progressive Democrats like The Squad were ignoring her...

I happen to like some of the squad even if I don't agree with all their positions. There's nothing wrong with a party in a 2-party system having an extreme wing and I think having their voices heard serves a positive purpose. But if their ideology were all that persuasive to the average Democrat, Bernie Sanders would be President now. You do the math.

Yes I agree with you, and I would have much preferred Bernie as our president too. But I think this is the basic problem with Democrats, unlike the GOP who always seem to stick together just as long as nobody speaks out against The Orange One, Democrats are always fighting amongst themselves and can't seem to agree on a lot of things. I think that's why they are failing in their promise to stop the Trump era GOP from taking over the country.

Yeah Stacey Abrams seems the right person to lead the resistance although unfortunately she isn't what I would call charismatic. If I were retired or had better executive function I would probably get involved with her efforts in some way. There was a big voting rights rally in DC not long ago but I'm not at a place in my life where I'm likely to go to something like that.

Me neither, in fact I've never even had a chance to vote in my life because every time an election comes up my mom always has some excuse to not drive me up to do any voting. But now I'm starting to think that voting really is a waste of time. It's like all we have a choice between anymore is the frying pan or the fire.
