Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you....

What the hell does this mean?

It means that either you should careful when fighting "evil" that you yourself don't become evil in the process, or that Friedrich Nietzsche was into some really trippy chemicals.

That part about the "Abyss" is a broader warning that whatever interests you will eventually influence you.

For example, do you know anyone who really loves cats? Do they seem to have acquired some cat-like mannerisms?

Ahh, but what about those who create the monsters instead of fighting them? Remember, I am a bit of a Dr. Frankenstein at heart. I have lived in the Abyss before, as it is a fountain of dark knowledge. It can be a fun place to work and play if you know how to do so carefully. You just have to watch how it can start to control your mind over time. It can make you it’s puppet if you let it.
