Quote:
A senior military officer brought into the White House to coordinate the Bush administration's Iraq war policy has said that a return to conscription should be considered because of the increasing demands on United States military.

Lt Gen Douglas Lute, President George W. Bush's deputy national security adviser, said: "I think it makes sense to certainly consider it, and I can tell you, this has always been an option on the table."

It'd be electoral suicide for any party that said they would bring it in.

They bribe and or payoff anyone nowdays to join with cash do not need a draft. there are lots of ppl who are willing to fight for cash or a misplaced sense of thinking they are "good guys" So sad humans still are struck at this insane way of working out who is in control. And if the gov was to do this i think ppl will tell them to f off and not be pressed into service.

The real answer is to not fight in the first place. This might sound hare-brained, but say for eg, Mexico decided to declare war on the US over territory and the US decides to say 'Piss off, we don't want to', one of 2 things could happen; the Mexicans would invade and get their arse kicked, or they could say 'they don't wanna play, let's do something else'. Seems unlikely, but imagine if you refused to play ball just because the others wanted to pick a fight? The only reason wars take place is because both sides get involved. If one says no, then the other might feel cheated and decide it wasn't such a good idea afterall. But then again, the real world doesn't work like that....

This is why I'm happy I live in Sandusky. All I need to do is hop in a speedboat and I can be in Canada within the hour.

Not really, Mexico wouldn't start a war to get their arse kicked as only idiots attack that which they know to be stronger. Not only that but people will usually not want to surrender for peace all of the time to avoid war, not wanting to be a part of a war doesn't prevent the war from coming.

You all sound like you think the damn draft ended to begin with. Shame on all of you. It just isn't as apparent. It becomes more apparent, when there is a war and everyone can see more clearly the nasty little secret of the military, they're all about killing, period.

I have mixed feelings about my past. Proud in a way to have worn the uniform, that to me, represented those that died to defend us. Ashamed, at the time, for being part of a war that had no business being, in the first place.
