to those who worry about jivin' joe the munchkin defecting to the GOP, that is a very real possibility and is already moot because he acts just like a GOPer in blocking just about all useful legislation that the GOP oppose. he won't even lift a finger in protecting the vote. what good is he, even if he nominally is a democrat? the legislative process is paralyzed either with him as a democrat or as a republican.

The truth of this becomes more scarey as his administration goes on . 8O

He’s even more conservative than 2-3 of the GOP senators (Collins, Murkowski, and possibly Moore-Capito).

Hickenlooper, Collins and Angus King are now my go-to senators.

There used to be a town with two competing car dealerships. They were always taking shots at each other in their ads. Then, their owner died, and it turned out to be the same guy. There is a long list of policies favoured by US people that have been vetoed by the rich.

I’ve heard the saying in the UK… Whoever you vote for, you end up with The Government.

I suppose in the US you could swap The Government for The President.

Any group of three or more people will develop a government. It is easy to get cynical about them all, but they are not necessarily bad. John Duffie once referred to "the time it takes for a bureaucracy to recrudesce after a revolution," and Robert Persig observed that even the Russian revolution had to continue using the same civil servants. The problem is that it takes generations for people to get used to being active in politics after it being dangerous, and all that time, the greedheads are trying to sabotage the process. They usually win.
Keeping a government honest takes a lot of work, with the rewards going to everyone, while the risk can be severe on the heroes. This is not well designed. Catching your boss cheating should be a good way to get promoted.
The most efficient government I know of was developed by tribal cultures. It looked like a patriarchy, as the chief was generally a man in his prime. However, he didn't get there by fighting, or even by forming a gang. He was elected by the grandmothers. They had the time, the wisdom, and the right motivation to choose well. Most people didn't have a say, but they felt well-served, so the chief was not undermined by everyone with an ill-informed opinion second-guessing him.

No other Democrat could win in West Virginia, and without Manchin, the Democrats lose the senate and any hope of passing any of their agenda, confirming any justices, or basically accomplishing anything at all. I'd of course be delighted at that outcome, but I can't say I see the logic of any Democrats pushing for such an eventuality.

And if he resigns, one must keep in mind that WV’s governor, Jim Justice, is a Republican, would appoint an interim senator and the seat would be flipped.

Also, the possibility of at least one GOP senator (likely Collins and/or Murkowski) supporting BBB should not be ruled out.
