Trump invokes antisemitic tropes while discussing his support for Israel

Quote:
Former President Donald Trump veered into several antisemitic tropes in a recent interview, claiming that Israel used to have "absolute power over Congress" and saying that American Jews — the majority of whom vote Democratic — "either don't like Israel or don't care about Israel."

Trump's comments to Israeli journalist Barak Ravid are not the first time he's used language that skews toward biased stereotypes about Jews: In 2019, the then-president said Jews who vote Democratic are "being very disloyal to Israel."

Trump also claimed to Ravid, who recently published a book about his administration's Abraham Accords treaties between Israel and Arab nations, that evangelical Christians in the United States “love Israel more than the Jews” — touting a group he heavily courted in his 2016 presidential campaign and a pillar of his political base.

As for his assessment of Israel's waning influence in Congress, Trump cast blame on former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden. He went on to lament the voting preferences of the Jewish electorate.

“Obama and Biden did that, and yet in the election they still get a lot of votes from Jewish people, which tells you the Jewish people — and I’ve said this for a long time — the Jewish people in the United States either don’t like Israel or don’t care about Israel,” Trump said in an interview with Ravid that aired on the "Unholy" podcast.

The former president also cited the heritage of the Sulzberger family that publishes The New York Times, which he said “hates Israel."

“They’re Jewish people that run The New York Times,” Trump said.

Interesting.

He manages to be pro Israel, and antisemitic, at the same time.

There's strains of white nationalism that are pro-Israel but also don't want their Jewish countrymen as part of their ethno-state; they support a Jewish ethno-state as a means towards that end.

Thats true. In Europe as well there are White Nationalists who love Israel precisely because its a destination to deport all of their Jewish neighbors to.

People can’t seem to grasp the concept that being Jewish doesn’t always mean pro-Zionist.

White supremacists often support Israel for the same reason they supported shipping freed slaves to Liberia: it's all about shipping 'inferior' races abroad so they don't pollute white civilization. Zionists even before Israel's founding recognized that nationalist Europeans could be a great ally because they also wanted Jews to gtfo of Europe, and Israel would give them somewhere to go where they wouldn't bother white people. And could serve as colonial meat shields against the Muslim boogeyman.

It also plays into the anti-Semitic "Dual Loyalties" narrative, where the existence of a Jewish state gives nationalists something to point to to suggest Jews are more loyal to a foreign country than to the one they live in. And if they aren't "loyal" to Israel, then they are accused of being self-hating Jews. Since in their eyes the only reason someone wouldn't support Israel is because they hate Jews.

Don't the definitions of conservative or liberal kind of vary from region to region though? If Israel is conservative in every sense of the word EXCEPT towards people who have a disability after what happened during the Holocaust, then even the most conservative people there help accommodate disabled people, but the conservatives here get off on victimizing disabled people; wouldn't it mean a difference on whether to vote conservative or liberal depending on which country you are in if concerns for the disabled is your biggest concern?

What does this post have to do with the topic of this thread?

Who said anything about the "disabled"?

And who said anything about "conservative or liberal"?
