An article by an American that sums up what I think
Here is an article by an American that sees what most other Americans don't. And they pretty much described my exact thoughts on the whole Ukraine issue: https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/20 ... d-ukraine/
no one forced the US to put Georgia and Ukraine on the list for NATO expansion in 2008, and Putin's been upset about it since.
So the US will loose Georgia and Ukraine to Russia.
However, the US can make a boatload of money if they sanction Russia so Europe has to buy expensive oil and gas from the US.

No one forced US to let Poland join NATO in 1997.
Would it also be a good excuse for Putin to attack us?
How about peoples not wanting to be in Russian sphere of influence?

Add the large push for renewable energy, and Russia is toast. EVs are becoming more widely available, so there’s that.

Part of the agreement when the USSR split up was that NATO won't expand "not even by an inch". But it was said in words rathre than in writing, and thats why NATO expanded. So Russia was native for not asking for signature and the West used Russian naivette as a tool to take advantage of the situation. That is what Putin is upset about.
There is so much that could have been said against propping up Ukraine and this article didn't say any of it.
This is garbage adolescent Republican xenophobia.
An actually informed article might have mentioned that the US promised Russia that NATO wouldn't expand so close to Russia. It might have mentioned that Putin has called the current Ukraine government a puppet of the US, and that he has a point. It might have mentioned that we are supporting actual neonazis in our propping up of Ukraine and our supporting the fight against the separatists in the east.
Nope. Mexico is sending "divisions" across our southern border.
Pathetic.
I see my question has been left without an answer, so I'm repeating it:
As my country is one of the NATO members who joined in 1997 and just before the invasion Putin demanded shrinking NATO presence in Europe to pre-1997 - would you defend him attacking me as well?

i wouldn't defend Putin attacking anyone.

No, because two wrongs don't make it to right.
But people in the parts of Ukraine that Putin tries to take actually want to be part of Russia (as Crimean vote indicated). That can not be saida about Poland.

Well, it doesn't have to be one set of reasons or the other. It can be a combination of both. At least my own reasons for thinking this way is a combination of both sets of reasons. I believe
a) Its weird that US gets involved anyway, regardless of the side it takes
b) Russian side actually has a point
What that article said was more heavily emphasizing on a, while you want to emphasize more on b. I think its both. The stuff about Mexico is just an example to illustrate point "a".

I dont think Ukraine need alot of help they seem to be doing ok keeping the Russians back, they are stocked up on enough ammo to launch an insurgency war much worse than Iraq as they are being supplied with modern weapons as opposed to home made IEDs
What worries me is Putin is now cornered, its do or die, loose the war & his people will imprison or kill him, so maybe just nuking US or Europe is a way out, take the whole thing down with him.
He has around 1200 nukes capable of hitting US & 15,000 battlefield nukes with limited range
I really believe that may happen

??? Putin is an authoritarian, a gangster and a former KGB agent. He's not a mad man willing to end human civilisation over Ukraine.

Someone said 30 years ago that NATO wouldn’t expand? Boohoo. Doesn’t justify Putin’s actions, at all. If anything, he should be angry at the US, not Ukraine. Perhaps a few sanctions would be appropriate, or a Russian withdrawal from some other treaty.
The Ukrainian government isn’t a puppet of the US. It is allied to it, but it isn’t a puppet. A puppet would have gone along with Trump’s blackmail and wouldn’t be criticising the Western response to the crisis.
The neonazi thing is just Russian propaganda. The Ukrainian government and military is not Nazis. Yes, there are Nazis in a country of 40 million people… mostly fighting on Russia’s side.
Agree about the xenophobic trash but otherwise I am struggling to agree with anything else you have said.
Eerily I am having the same questions? Who would have guessed I would agree with conservative right wingers
I am wondering why we are putting our own countries at risk?
I was supportive of the pull out from Iraq, Afghanistan so why now send troops into a conflict with a superppwer over an issue they consider to be an internal matter (even if it's not).
I find it hypocritical that the west sit back and watch China murder an entire nation of people.
It's not like Ukraine will not exist. It will just become a puppet of Russia regardless. The current Ukrainian government is not Tibet (a county of monks allowed by the west to vanish) it's a corrupt regime.
