It seems like a "common sense" idea but there are problems that need to be considered before rushing into passing these laws.
It is presumed guilt in a system that is supposed to presume innocence.
It gives anybody with a grudge against somebody an opportunity to if not take their gun away make their life miserable and negatively affect their reputation. As part of the investigation neighbors and friends will be interviewed and thus find out.
Who do you think will get a lion's share of people anonymously complaining that a person is acting strange, or suspicious? Autistics, that's who.
Maybe this situation has devolved to the point where some group (us) has to become innocent collateral damage for the greater good. Maybe not. Before supporting these laws we need to set panic aside and rationally think this mess through. If any group is equipped to do it, it is us.
