Yep...just when you think the world can't get any madder.
Pessimist: 'It can't be worse!'
Optimist: 'Sure it can!'

I'm an 'optimist' in this regard, unfortunately.

Pessimism 1: It couldn't get worse than this.
Pessimism 2: It will.

No wonder depression took root in me.

It's a shame the anti-choice "justice" mortality rate hasn't increased.

This is what happens when people vote for candidates based on the number of times they "menshun Gawd(TM)".

In the case of Texas, it has led to a power failure that killed 200+ people, several mass shootings, nothing being done about climate change, tens of thousands dead from Covid, medical care for trans people being classified as "child abuse", POC incarcerated at a higher rate than whites, schools that are sometimes worse than Mississippi's (hard to believe), and what will likely be a total abortion ban.

And this doesn't even include all the conspiracy theories.

Yes and I wonder if these decision makers are going to provide food, shelter and clothing for the potential extra lives that will be born as a result of their rule making.

If all those pro-birthers truly cared about children, then why are there so many waiting for a foster family? They don’t seem to give a fat rats ass after they are born.

Are you saying there are fewer human beings in “red” states?

No, just more women who want an abortion ban.

To be more precise: Fewer women in red states would ever be concerned about abortion, anyway. The mindset is that contraception is available, or women otherwise aren’t concerned about the risk. For those who MIGHT have to worry about the risk, the attitude is that getting pregnant through actions they freely engaged in carries a risk of pregnancy that they assume when they have sex. For them, engaging in promiscuous or risky behavior is bad enough. It doesn’t have to be made worse by, from the POV of these women, committing murder.

Fewer women have sex in red states, and fewer men commit rape?

I still don’t get it.

This mindset is actually universal anywhere where sexual education is sufficient and contraception available.
Abortion instead of contraception was a thing in Soviet Russia in 1920s but it's not the case any more.

The question about abortion right is about something different: what to do when something unexpected happens? What are the options when things go wrong?

In my country, a woman already has died last year because the docs waited too long with a decision to abort a pregancy that could never end in a healthy birth. https://tvn24.pl/tvn24-news-in-english/ ... th-5479348

Fewer women in red states have sex because it's against their religion.

As for rape, it's prosecuted and a serious crime, but the right doesn't care about the physical and psychological damage the victim endures. If anything, they consider it just another type of "adultery", unless the assailant is her spouse.

I’ll have to reply later as I’m busy right now and can’t write in detail. Thanks to magz for filling in some of the blanks with common sense.

It seems you are denying the trauma of sex crimes and blaming religion, by stereotyping entire states. I’ll have to read this more closely later because I hope that’s not what you mean.

And that number is only for the ones that actually get reported.

Most pregnancies aren’t the result of rape, and not every rape victim gets pregnant. This kind of argument reminds me of how right-wingers get all bent out of shape over the insanity defense for murder. The argument is that the insanity plea is used too often. This isn’t factual. The criteria for pleading insanity is stringent—the insane person must typically have a history of mental illness and violet behavior. Of those who successfully plead insanity, it is rare that they are acquitted.

I don’t actually have a problem with sexual assault as a rationale for abortion. I believe that whatever the actual incidence of conceptions from sexual assault is, it must be sufficiently rare that, like the insanity plea, it neither deserves the attention of abortion opponents or proponents.

I don’t see rape as an abortion issue. I see rape as a rape issue. Abortion resulting from rape is the rapist’s fault. Treat it like murder or manslaughter and either lock the man up, give him forced labor, or put him down for the long sleep.

Dismal to think about.
Now women in my state can get raped, be forced to carry their rapist’s child ,have crappy prenatal care, and then live in poverty. We are going backwards.
