Looks like it doesn't it. The Thatcher Mini Me will win.

UK under international pressure over deletion of abortion commitments

More than 20 countries, including those now complaining, had signed the original text, which included a commitment to the repeal of any laws that “allow harmful practices, or restrict women’s and girls’ … sexual and reproductive health and rights, bodily autonomy.”

But those phrases were removed from a later version of the international pact, which is currently online and has been signed by six countries, including the UK and Malta, where abortion is illegal.

The Tories are coming for Women's Rights. Be afraid.

Weirdly for the first time in 6 years I feel a little bit more positive about UK politics. Not because of who is coming in as PM, but to me it feels like this appointment is the beginning of the end.

We had the lunacy around brexit claims, and since Jan 1st 2020 we had the covid impact masking (no pun intended) the brexit impact. But now covid restrictions are gone we are seeing clear brexit impacts on businesses and peoples lives.

Truss will become PM because she is the bigger 'unicornist' of the 2 of them. But you can't keep going on pretending brexit is a great thing in the face of a failing economy. They will of course try and make new excuses (energy prices, war in Ukraine, other economies having a hard time) but that will only carry so much weight. At some point it will become easy to point at joining something like the Single Market and it having a significant positive impact on British businesses and the UK tax bottom line.

30 months max until the next election. There are still going to be some unpleasant bumps in the road but to me it feels like the end of the madness may be on the horizon. I think Truss might be the final Brexit obsessed Tory leader and from the next election onwards whoever wins I am not sure we will see an extreme unicorn type leader again

I hope you are right! Yes, covid has been 'masking' the Brexit effects hasn't it, and that won't be possible now.

So 30 months...that's end of 2024 is it?

Jan 25 is the latest they can hold an election. It will likely be a few months earlier than that.

I'll make sure I'm registered to vote, as we're probably moving house in 2024

That's scary. The Daily Express and the Daily Mail are both actively telling their readers to support Truss, which suggests to me that she's more dangerous than the other one.

FFS. Johnson trying to get himself on the ballot paper?? He's insane.

I also saw this:

Worst NHS staffing crisis in its history is putting patients at serious risk, MPs warn

https://www.theguardian.com/society/202 ... k-mps-warn

Erm...MPs are warning there is an NHS staffing crisis? Who has been in government for the last 12 years? If only they'd been able to prevent this happening! :x

I reckon Tories love it, because it makes them seem open minded and diverse. They were going on about how diverse their list of candidates was.

But they weren't financially or educationally diverse, which is the problem. :x

I’m going with Liz Truss…

Former Greenham Common activist, former committed Brexit remainer… what’s not to like?

… irony alert.
