The irony of Trump's "Red Wave"...

With Trump and his supporters going on about the "Red Wave" (GOP) taking over the US, well, does anyone else think of the irony back when in the 1950's ultra right wing speaker Joseph McCarthy who fed into America's paranoia about the spread of Communism preached about how it was better to be "Dead than Red"?

Oh what a sick sense of humor the universe must have!

Don't know. I still can't get over the way somebody switched the meaning of "red" from left to right.

It's an old latin phrase that translates as:

The roles of the Republicans and Democrats have greatly reversed. I think people forget that the GOP were the ones who originally fought to end slavery during the American Civil War. Now it's almost as if they're the ones who are all for it with the possibility of a new Civil War on the horizon.

Yes they do steal each other's clothes from time to time don't they? Dad had a very neat political theory - to him politicians were simply bandits of the lowest order, without exception. And looking around, I don't see much to invalidate that.

The US parties, unlike in most other countries, did not choose their colours. It is only since ~2000 that the Republicans have been consistently associated with red and Democrats with blue.

And for that, we can thank the bastards in the news media. Oh, how I wish the broadcast media would just go back to simply reporting the news, a la Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, and ditch the “pretty boys and girls” who don’t have a freaking brain in their heads to rely on! (And to be quite frank, the print media can be just as offensive.)
