I have no sympathy for them, for us a different story.
They buck Trump, they get Liz Cheneyied, they stay MAGA outside of purely red areas they lose in the General. That is what they get for being coward enablers.
Even if somehow they completely pivot(that is questionable) enabling authoritarianism and treason is something I can never move on from.
One-party rule is a bad thing.
We will get depending on who wins the internal Democrat battles
1. Corporate Democrat/Neoliberal rule
2. Woke/socialist rule. In an anything but MAGA country, even the most radical types become electable
3. Maybe the internal Dem fight is not settled and we get endless stalemate and inability to get much done.

Republicans are still a majority in the House and in the majority of state legislatures, thanks to gerrymandering. So it will be a while, if ever, before Democrats can attain one-party control.

One-party systems are unstable unless all opposition is being actively supressed.
Someone will show up to capitalize on still serious political power of Republicans.
Or Democrats will split.
Or some third party would raise (least probable, imo).
You have a system that promotes two parties and it will go through possible disturbances back to its point of equilibrium - two parties of similar power.

If they double down on MAGA it is only a matter of time.
Another option is staying MAGA but sounding better doing it. It is questionable if they have the ability to do it and even if they can it is an open question as to if the damage they have done is repairable.
I do not think are capable of going back to “classic Republican”.

Here in the UK we seem to have long runs of conservative or labor gov.
Each time one wins some people say it’s the end of the other
Never is people get fed up with a gov and naturally gravitate back to the old party again.
I suspect the same will happen in the US
Although it seems the natural divide these days is liberals v conservatives which go across party lines

Given that Republicans won the 2022 popular vote, you can't honestly attribute their majority to gerrymandering. In fact they won by a wider margin than Hillary Clinton did in 2016.
The other point that people conveniently forget about gerrymandering is that it can increase the number of safe seats or winnable seats, but it can't do both. The only way to have a safe majority in a state's House delegation is to have a solidly red or blue electorate.
The Republicans will always have a chance at power as long as the money is there to fund their politics, which there is plenty of currently.
It'll take a while before all of the older generations die off & the Republicans in their current form become alien to the general electorate.
